Monochromatic Elegance
Hello friends, Melissa here! I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to beautiful Spring weather. I belong to a card traders group where we challenge each other to create different cards with either a new technique or fold or subject. This one is for the monochromatic challenge, which is a challenge indeed! So let’s pull some supplies together first!
- DCS – Dolphin
- 3d embossing folder – I used one from Altenew
- Stencil – I used one from AALL & Create
- Text stamp
- Distress Oxide Ink – Black Soot
- Nuvo Crystal Drops – Silver Lining
Let’s get started. First of all, you’ll want to cut your card base from Dolphin cardstock, my card is a standard A2 card, but you can do whatever size you’d like. Square would be really pretty! You will also need another piece of Dolphin cardstock to emboss your focal image.

Once you have that embossed, next let’s give it some shading with Black Soot ink and a blending brush. This is going to give it some added pop when you add to your base.

Fussy cut the image out. Add more shading if you prefer. I darkened the right side edge. Set aside, let’s work on the base a bit.

Using Black Soot again, add your stencil design. I am currently obsessed with this one from AALL & Create. There’s just something about it! I also (not pictured) stamped randomly, incompletely and quite messily some text in black ink.

Finish the card. Adhere the focal image to the card base. Add a simple sentiment to the card and embellish with some Nuvo Drops. I love these! They add the perfect touch to any card.

I do hope you’re inspired by this card and will give monochromatic techniques a try. I want to do one in pink next! What color will you try?
