Bluer Than Blue Layout

Hello January 9th. We meet again. And I still hate you.
Hello everyone, Misty (@Mommyofkidz) here with you, and I apologize for the harsh opening to this post. However, please understand, as this is a very difficult day for me as a bereaved Mother. Nine Years ago today, my oldest son was killed in a hit and run motorcycle accident while on his way to work. Despite what people say, Time does NOT heal. It does NOT get easier. And the pain DOES NOT go away. However, it does become more manageable once you understand your personal triggers and find a therapeutic outlet to express your grief. While scrapbooking is my favorite hobby, it is also my personal outlet, and has helped me to work through the grief these past nine years. It has brought me to a point in which I am able to share with you my “Bluer Than Blue” layout featuring my precious son.

Gathering the Supplies

Just as I have done in the past several years, I began this year with the hopes of making it through the first few weeks without too many tears. Just as I have done in the past, I failed, but it is ok. I have learned that this is my yearly grieving process, and I NEED it in order to make it through the rest of the year. SO, I gave in and let the tears flow. They were flowing as I gathered my card stock. They were flowing as I selected my flowers. And…they were Gushing as I printed the words onto the vellum. I actually had to double check my supplies to make sure that I had gotten everything before I sat. Those dang tears were blinding me!

Now, I knew that I would take FOREVER with this layout, just because of the inability to complete it without a plethora of tears. Therefore, I kept it very simple and easy in hopes of minimizing my crying time. LOL..See! I know my triggers!

Laying the Foundation

The DCS Discount Card Stock: Wild Blueberry Navy Card Stock serves as the base for my layout, and the stabilizer for me as I build my “picket fence”. The bluish colored woodgrain card stock that I found in the Craft Consortium paper pad was the perfect choice for my fencing. I simply used my 12 inch personal trimmer to cut it into strips, then distressed all the edges creating texture on the “wood”. After placing my pickets onto the base, it was time to mount the photo and add it to the page.

Quiet Reflection

As I was putting this “Bluer Than Blue” layout together, I remembered a couple of my layouts from the past during this time of year. This one, “SAY MY NAME” still hangs above my desk so that I can see my son’s smiling face, and I DO say his name every day, and remind him just how much I love him. Also, it reminds me how often I scrapbook with the color BLUE. Apparently it is a LOT! **Side note…if you use blue as much as I do, THIS MONTH’S SPECIAL is perfect for you!!
Since I do love blue so much, I added more! A variety of flowers mixed in with a few leaves and crystals, and even a few butterflies. I chose to cut the butterflies using DCS Discount Card Stock: Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White Card Stock.

Like I mentioned, today is a very difficult day for me, and I do avoid all social media as it tends to be too overwhelming. However, since you are reading this, that means to you are able to hop on over to the CutCardStock store and load a basket full of your favorite blues! Don’t wait until someone that you love is gone. Start making memories and documenting them now.

  1. This layout is a beautiful tribute. I love how you distressed the wood and the vellum printing is so pretty. I think grief allows us to be more creative and serves as an outlet, it is very evident in this layout you created. Thank you for sharing this special moment. Sending prayers for you today.
