This Hello Friends! Today I am sharing how to turn a flat die into a Treat Box! This post is for CutCardStock.com. Be sure to check out their great selection of cardstock and other paper supplies!

Create the pieces

Savoy 100% Cotton Paper is great for ink smooshing techniques. While technically not watercolor paper, it stands up very well to wet techniques. Cut two pieces of Savoy paper in 3 x 3.5 inch pieces and ink smoosh both sides using Crackling Campfire and Carved Pumpkin Distress Inks. Set aside to dry. Also cut five ghosts from the Savoy Cardstock and set aside.

Die cut four Haunted Houses using Shadow Grey Cardstock. You will be enclosing the orange inked pieces between 2 houses so the inside is dark grey as well. Cut a strip of grey cardstock 1 3/4 inches wide and 8 inches long. Use your scoreboard to add creases 1/4 inch in on each long side. You will fold and cut angles when you are ready to assemble the Treat Box.

Assemble the Treat Box

Dry emboss the two orange rectangles using the Haunted House Die. This will impress the image and not cut out the windows and doors. Trim the Savoy Paper so it fits between the outside window openings and the outer edge of the house, matching up the embossed and cut windows and doors. Sandwich the orange pieces between two of the houses being sure when you assemble them, the tall turret is on the same side.

Now is the time to determine the placement of the Treat Box sides. Measure from just below the roof on the high side to almost the bottom. Fold the cardstock. Measure across the bottom and fold close to the other edge. Cut angles to each of the folds (see prior photo) so you can easily assemble the Treat Box. Be sure the side does not extend beyond the shorter roof and trim if necessary.

Use adhesive tape to assemble the houses, being sure the taller roof is on the same side of the box.

Now all you need is a few ghosts to complete the Box. Open the front door on one side and add a ghost flying out. Cut two pieces of heavier acetate (like from clamshell boxes) in 1?4 inch strips. Sandwich between two ghosts and glue in place. Determine where you want your ghosts to be flying and glue inside the Box.

The last step is to fill with candy and you are good to go. Wouldn’t these make cute favors for a classroom or a Halloween Party?
