Embrace December with a Cozy Scrapbook Layout
I can’t believe it’s already December! This year feels like it has flown by, and now we’re diving headfirst into the holiday season. Amid the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations, I’ve been carving out some time for my favorite creative escape—scrapbooking! My latest project is a layout that features a heartwarming moment with our family pup, captured in a photo my daughter shared with me.
Let me walk you through how this layout came together, from inspiration to the finishing touches.
Getting Started
The photo that sparked this project shows our sweet dog soaking up extra belly rubs from my daughter before school. It’s one of those simple, precious moments that’s perfect for preserving in a scrapbook.
To complement the cozy, wintery feel of the image, I chose a heart-themed cut file from Peartree Cutfiles. I envisioned turning some of the hearts into fun sequin shaker boxes, adding movement and sparkle to the layout. Using my trusty Silhouette Cameo, I duplicated the cut file three times. I reached for my go-to white cardstock: DCS Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White cardstock—a perfect base for any project.

For the hearts, I opted for a soothing mix of blue and gray tones to set a cool, winter-inspired mood. The cardstocks I used included:
- DCS Canvas Textured Shadow Gray cardstock
- DCS Wild Blueberry Navy cardstock
- DCS Canvas Textured Lava Stone Gray cardstock
- Lessebo Misty Blue cardstock
These colors worked beautifully together, creating a subtle, elegant palette for my layout.

Adding Texture with Faux Plaid
To elevate the cardstock and add a unique detail, I decided to create a faux plaid pattern using my Martha Stewart scoring board. This was such a fun and easy way to add texture!

For each piece of cardstock, I scored lines every ¼ inch to 1 inch, varying the patterns to keep things interesting. The result? A beautifully textured backdrop for the hearts that gives them a quilted, cozy vibe—perfect for a wintery layout.

Creating the Shaker Hearts
With the cardstock prepped, I got to work backing the cut file. Each heart was filled with a mix of the textured cardstocks and clear acetate to form the base of my shaker boxes.
To create dimension, I adhered two additional layers of the cut file behind the first one, forming a gap to hold the sequins. Finally, I carefully added sequins in coordinating colors to three of the hearts, sealing them with a second layer of acetate. The final effect is stunning—the shaker hearts add a playful, interactive element to the page!

Assembling the Layout

Now that the cut file was ready, it was time to bring the whole layout together. First, I started with a background of DCS Wild Blueberry Navy cardstock, which tied the color palette together. I selected patterned papers from the Cocoa Vanilla Studios Great Escape collection. This includes a gorgeous gray woodgrain design that added a rustic touch.
To enhance the background, I used Distress Inks smudging and blending the colors for a soft, mixed-media effect. This created a subtle pop of color behind the cut file and the photo, adding depth to the layout.
For the title, I chose an acrylic piece from Peartree Cutfiles—simple, clean, and perfect for keeping the focus on the photo and cut file. Puffy hearts from Elle’s Studio provided just the right amount of embellishment. They add a sweet finishing touch without overwhelming the page.

This layout is a celebration of cozy moments and wintery vibes, brought to life with textured cardstocks, sequin shaker hearts. I hope it inspires you to dive into your own creative projects this season! Thank you so much for joining me today for this winter layout.
