One more 4th of July card!

Hey everybody, happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great week! Leslie here with a tutorial for making a slide and lock fun fold. Yep, I squeezed one more July 4th project in. I used Misty Blue, Dawn Maroon and White from our new Lessebo line paired with Classic Crest Solar White. This fun fold is definitely a joy to make and looks more complicated than it really is.

Cut Card Base & Layers

Cut a 5-1/2″ x 10-1/2″ card base from Lessebo Misty Blue and score at 4-1/4″ and 8-1/2″.

Next, cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layering panel for the left front from patterned paper. Similarly, cut another one the same size for the inside from Classic Crest Solar White.

Finally, cut a 1-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ layering panel for the right front from a coordinating patterned paper.

Create Shaker

Using two dies of any shape, cut a frame from patterned paper and adhere acetate behind it. Also cut a backer from Lessebo Misty Blue using the larger of the two dies and apply foam strips around the edges. Fill with desired shaker mix and seal around the foam strips.

Stamp, color and die cut a focal image and adhere to the left side of the shaker with foam squares.

Gather Die Cuts

Die cut a circle from the Misty Blue cardstock which will be used on the back side of the slide mechanism. Additionally, choose a couple die cuts to use for embellishing the card front.

Adhere Card Base Layers

First, adhere the 4″ x 5-1/4″ patterned paper layering panel to the right side of the card base.

With the narrow scored section of the card base on the left, measure 1″ inward and make a small pencil mark. Put the card base in your trimmer and cut diagonally from the pencil mark down to the left lower corner.

Following this, measure 3/4″ inward on the 1-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ patterned paper layering panel and make a small pencil mark. Put this piece in your trimmer as well, and cut diagonally from the pencil mark down to the left lower corner. Adhere it to the left side of the card base.

Cut Slide & Lock Track

Let’s cut the slide and lock track into the front of the card base. This can be done with a paper trimmer or a knife and ruler. Measure 3-1/4″ down from the top edge and 2-5/8″ in from the right edge and make a pencil mark. Now cut a length of 2-1/8″ from the pencil mark toward the outside edge. Make another cut 1/2″ above the first one and cut downward on each end to form the rectangular track. Discard the cut-out piece.

Fold the slanted flap underneath the large flap and lightly trace the right side of the track. Similarly, cut that portion out of the slanted flap, and your track is complete. As before, discard the cut-out piece.

Adhere Shaker

Position the shaker over the track on the card front with a piece of washi tape. Open the card base and affix one and a half foam squares through the track onto the back of the shaker. Remove the backing from the foam squares and attach the die cut circle.

Remove the washi tape from the shaker and slide it back and forth to be sure it moves freely.

Embellish & Stamp Inside Panel

Embellish the 4″ x 5-1/4″ Solar White inside panel with strips of patterned paper and Lessebo Dawn Maroon cardstock. Additionally, stamp a sentiment and hearts in black ink and color the hearts. Lastly, add a star punched from Lessebo White cardstock.

Complete Project

Adhere the inside panel to the card base and close the card. To complete the project, add the die cuts and enamel stars to the card front. I also added a couple stars to the shaker frame punched from Lessebo Dawn Maroon and White cardstock.
