Patriotic 3D Star Scrapbook Layout

Greetings crafty friends, Kristin here sharing a patriotic 3D star scrapbook layout! I don’t know about you, but I love using stars in my papercrafting projects-they’re so versatile and can be used as a standout feature on your project. Here I will share with you how to create these beautiful 3D stars to use on your very own projects.

Supplies Used

Patriot Blue Heavyweight Cardstock

Premium Dawn Maroon Cardstock

Plain White Cardstock

Echo Park Yankee Doodle Blue Cardstock

Electronic Cutting Machine

Scoring board

Bone folder

White embroidery thread

Gold foam sticker title, stars, and sequins

Foam adhesive

Glue

Creating the 3D stars

First, I started off by cutting a star pattern into the Patriot Blue Heavyweight Cardstock. I found a star cut file in Cricut Design Space and cut about 24 stars out.

Once the stars were all cut out, I scored the star by choosing one point of the star and scoring straight down from the point. I continued this until all 5 points of the star were scored. Next, I pinched each of the points to create a peak (as pictured below)-this step is what gives the star a 3D appearance.

After completing the scoring and pinching process of the blue cardstock stars, I then repeated the same process for the Premium Dawn Maroon Cardstock. For the white stars, I opted for a smaller star and punched these stars using a small star punch. I scored the smaller white stars in the same manner as both the blue and red cardstocks.

Creating the layout

First, I layered the blue and red stars in opposite corners on the Echo Park Yankee Doodle Blue cardstock. In order to retain the 3D shape, I adhered the stars down using foam adhesive. I wanted the stars to have a random appearance and so I turned them in different directions and did not place them down in a particular color pattern.

Next, I layered the white stars on top using small foam adhesive dots. This was a great way to cover blank areas and add more interest to the blue and red stars. I mounted my photographs on the same plain white cardstock that I used to make the white stars and placed them in the center of the layout.

Finishing Touches

Finally, to draw attention back to the photographs, I added thread art using DMC white embroidery thread. To create the thread art, I poked a single hole by each of the photographs and then poked several holes around the edges of the cardstock. Then I threaded the embroidery thread through the single holes to each of the holes poked on the border. The thread art reminded me of a firework exploding! I then added gold star sequins to the thread using glue. To complete the layout, I added a gold foam sticker title and 3 gold foam sticker stars around the photographs.
