Nothing says the holidays better than metallic and shimmer! I made a card today using gorgeous metallic cardstock from Cut Cardstock and some hot foiling.
I started by cutting out a piece of Stardream Metallic Lapis using a stitched rectangle die. This is going to be my card base panel. I wanted to do my hot foiling directly on the card base, but with different colors. I had some houses and some snow to put on the background so I lined up the first two hot foil dies where I wanted them to go and taped down the tops with some low tack tape – this kind of creates a hinge with the die.

I am using Silver iridescent hot foil for the snow and a light blue iridescent for the houses. I cut pieces of the foil big enough to cover the entire die and placed the foil down on my paper under the dies. Always remember that the pretty side of the foil touches the side of the die with the design.

Make sure that you turn your hot foil machine and let it heat up. Mine is ready when the green light comes on – time to foil! Place the cardstock on the hot surface of the machine with the dies touching the heated surface. Press the timer button and wait for it to stop flashing. Then it goes through your die cut machine. (Be sure to check with your specific die cut machine and hot foil machine for specific sandwich instructions).

I repeated these steps to get another area of snow and another row of houses. BUT…as you can see, I goofed up the first set of houses at the bottom! I think I put it through my die cut machine too quickly and didn’t give the foil time to transfer. But look how pretty the top row of houses came out! I LOVE FOIL!

To fix my mistake, I decided to make a snow hill at the bottom with the row of houses on it, I used the Curious Metallic Cryogen White cardstock to hot foil the houses and a sentiment with the light blue iridescent foil. I die cut them and got them ready to add to the card!

I added some foam tape to the snow hill and to the cut down sentiment and this card is ready to go!

I’d love to see all of your shimmery, metallic, holiday projects!
