Do you love ornaments and how pretty they look on the tree? Do you have favorite ornaments that bring back warm and fuzzy memories every year? I know I do. My card today is an attempt to create a special ornament in two dimensions. Real ornaments have a glow to them and Stardream Metallic cardstocks naturally have that glow so it made perfect sense to create a card featuring the beautiful colors and finishes of the Stardream cardstock line.

I wanted to something in non-traditional Christmas colors because, frankly, I’m tired of my favorite red, green and white color scheme at this point in the season. I chose instead blue, gold, bronze and white and I really like how the colors all work together to create an elegant look.

I started by cutting and embossing a 4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Stardream Metallic Sapphire cardstock. I wanted to create a tree branch background to hang the ornament from. I used a Sizzix folder to emboss the branches. It’s such an elegant touch and the deep blue cardstock glows. It really is beautiful. Then I cut all the shapes needed for the poinsettias, leaves, ornament and ornament top and the flower leaves. The flowers and ornament top are made from Curious Metallic Ice Gold. The leaves are made from text weight Stardream Metallic Copper paper. The main ornament is cut from Stardream Metallic Bronze and the accent pieces are Stardream Metallic Antique Gold. I cut another solid ornament shape out of the Antique Gold which I glued to the back of the main ornament so that the lighter gold would show through the holes.

I glued everything together and arranged the ornament on a copper string. I also arranged the leaves and poinsettias.

I decorated the ornament with small flatback pearls, gold glitter enamel dots and clear jewels.

Here’s a close up of the ornament details and a peak at some of the pine tree details in the Sapphire cardstock.

Here’s one more look at the finished card. I glued the finished blue panel on an A2 sized card base made from Royal Sundance Kraft Fiber Cardstock. As a final touch I added some star shaped mini-sequins and the Season’s Greetings sentiment strip.

I hope you enjoyed my journey in creating a special holiday ornament card. Stardream Metallic cardstocks and paper are a perfect choice for a luxurious, elegant card or project for the holidays. Stop by the store and check all the wonderful choices. There’s even matching envelopes to go with your special cards.
