Gnome Gift Tags

Do you ‘gnome’ how gnomes got to be so popular? Maybe it’s the adorable faces, or the fact they make great puns! If you enjoy collecting these cuties, you will love this easy gift tag project.

You can make them for all seasons and I was in the mood for both Fall and holiday tags this time! I made a couple different patterns and sizes.

Here are the CutCardStock colors and basic shapes, using trees and hearts from nesting dies. If you don’t have these shapes, the electronic cutting machines will easily have digital files in these common shapes too. These dies are 3” and smaller, and I used a variety of circles and squares at 1” and smaller. The great thing is that even the faux fur beards can be cut from these dies, but if you don’t have them – a simple triangle will do!

• 2 hearts in Adobo Orange
• 2 hearts in Banzai Green
• 2 trees in Pop Tone Gum Drop Green
• 2 trees in Vanilla Bean Brown
• 4 circles in Pink Taffeta for Christmas gnomes
• 4 circles in Solar White (dusted with a neutral chalk) for Fall gnomes
• 3 squares in Gumdrop Green and Vanilla Bean Brown
• White and leopard print faux fur ribbon
• Yarn, ribbon and other embellishments

The girl gnomes have 2 – 3” braids, made with 6-9 strands of your favorite color yarn. It does help to know how to braid! I taped down the ends while I braided so they wouldn’t slip. Then I just tied each end up with a bit more yarn or ribbon.

Each shape is dusted with chalk around the edges for dimension. I attached the braids and beards to the back of my shapes with a tacky glue and let dry. On the front, the Solar White circles, dusted with a beige chalk for the Fall gnomes, and the Pink Taffeta circles all became noses. I applied these with a pop dot to stand out a bit.

On one of the hats I glued on the Pop Tone Gum Drop Green and Vanilla Bean Brown squares as diamonds to give the gnome hat an argyle look. To complete the argyle print, take a black fine tip pen and draw a dotted line X through the middle.

Embellishing is SO much fun!! I used stickers or flowers I had around my home, several sequins and even some small sleigh bells tied at the end of the braids!

‘Gnome’ one will resist these tags if you add some punny sayings. For the Fall gnomes, I stamped on Solar White card stock using the Crafty Gnomes set from Dare 2B Artzy.
