Layer Ink Smooshing & Stenciling on Savoy

Let’s get inky and create texture and depth on our handmade cards! Layer ink smooshing and stenciling on Savoy 100% Cotton Soft Gray cardstock.

Although I don’t typically design on gray cardstock, I wanted to try something new. Savoy 100% Cotton Soft Gray Letterpress cardstock is 118 lb and heavy enough to handle a little water.

Learn how to layer ink smooshing & stenciling on Savoy cardstock in this short cardmaking video tutorial. Watch the cards come together in a snap here or in HD on YouTube. While you’re there I’d love it if you like, subscribe, and share it with friends!

Layer Ink Smooshing & Stenciling

My crafty friend Teri, also a Design Team Member, loves to ink smoosh. I don’t do it often and I should, it’s so easy to get great results! Start by smooshing two different color ink pads on your craft mat.

Here I used Altenew Fuchsia and Aqualicious Crisp Dye Ink. Spritz with water and pick up some ink on a piece of acetate or discarded stamp packaging.

Press or smoosh the inky packaging on the cardstock and repeat until you’re happy with the coverage. Choose your stencil and blend the same colors or the next darker shade. Here I used Altenew Magenta & Teal Cave Crisp Dye Ink.

Finally, stamp a sentiment. I used one from Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Butterflies. No need to embellish, there’s already a lot going on.

Reverse Stenciling

As you know, anytime you ink blend there is leftover ink on the stencil. Rather than cleaning the ink off, use it for another card with reverse stenciling. To intensify the color, add additional ink by swiping or pouncing an ink pad directly on the stencil.

Next, spritz the stencil with 3-4 sprays of water and press your cardstock onto the stencil. Gently lift up the stencil and voila, you’ve stamped the cardstock.

Up until now, you may have thought my photos were too dark or underexposed. But, with the white sentiment circle, you can clearly see I inked up soft gray cardstock.

To add more interest to this handmade card, I stamped a large flower from Simon Says Stamp Look For The Rainbows Stamp Set. Then, I stamped A Little Note from Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Butterflies on a scrap of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80 lb and die-cut it with a circle die.

Lastly, I popped up the sentiment on Darice Foam Squares and added Altenew Shades of Purple Enamel Dots to finish off the card.

That’s a wrap guys. What do you think, are you going to break out your Savoy paper and ink pads and have a play?
