DIY Easy Handmade Treat Box for the Holidays

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here. Today I have a quick tutorial that is perfect for the upcoming holiday season. If you are looking for an easy way to create customized treat boxes, just keep reading!

Step 1
Today I am going to make a customized treat box for this owl shaped lip balm. I picked Environment Desert Storm cardstock and die cut it with Stampin’ Up’s Takeout Treat dies. The Environment Desert Storm cardstock is my favorite type of kraft colored paper and a staple in my stash. Even though it has a fibrous appearance, the surface is ultra smooth so it is easy to stamp and die cut with. To make the box, I only need to die cut two pieces since the fold lines are pre-scored.

Step 2
Next, use any circle die you may have to create a window opening for the owl. I also trimmed a piece of acetate and adhered it to the back of the opening. You could also skip this step if you would like to keep the treat inside as a secret.

Step 3
I decided to dress up the treat box by stamping a wood grain pattern. I inked up Stampin’ Up’s Woodgrain stamp with VersaFine Clair Pinecone ink pad. This ink pad is great for capturing the fine-lined details. After that, we can begin assembling the box. I started by adhering the bottom rectangles together. Then, I added pieces of Tear-It Tape to the flaps of the die cut. Next, fold the flaps gently along the scored lines and adhere to the sides of the box. A customized treat box is now completed!

Step 4
Now that the treat box is made, you can begin decorating. I die cut leaves with DCS Canvas Textured Galax Olive Green cardstock and sprigs with DCS Gold Glitter Heavyweight 12 x 12 cardstock. Both of these dies are from Stampin’ Up’s Happy Birthday to You set. Last but not least, I tied some ribbons around the treat box, and this little owl is ready to wish someone a happy owlidays!
