Cheerful Botanicals: Crafting Embossed Boho Vases

Hello, this is Sweta from Table in the Attic and I am so excited to share my latest project with you today! Once in a while, someone we love goes through a tough time and needs a burst of encouragement. Handmade get-well cards are wonderful for lifting spirits, especially when they feature bold colors and rich tactile textures. For this design, I wanted to create a lively set of potted plants that feel fresh, modern, and cheerful.

When you want your die-cut elements to pop off the page, choosing cardstocks with saturated pigments and varied finishes is essential. Consequently, I selected a beautiful palette directly from CutCardStock to assemble this colorful arrangement. I chose DCS Raspberry Ice Pink and Lessebo Colors Premium Dawn Maroon for the vibrant vase fronts. For the lush greenery, I combined Lessebo Colors Hunter Green with the rich teal tones of Lessebo Colors Amazon. To give the cutout vase patterns an embossed glow, I layered them with Stardream Metallic Soft White Eris. Finally, I built the entire scene on a crisp, sturdy base made from Classic CREST Smooth Solar White 130 lb.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Die-Cutting and Embossing the Boho Vases

To begin, I die-cut the vase shapes from my colored cardstocks using the Altenew Boho Vases Die Set. I cut two vases from DCS Raspberry Ice Pink and the center lantern vase from Lessebo Dawn Maroon. Next, I placed the dies over Stardream Metallic Soft White Eris cardstock using an embossing rubber mat sandwich in my machine. Instead of cutting through, this pressure embossed the intricate pierced patterns directly into the white paper. Afterward, I fussy-cut around the embossed white shapes so they would fit neatly behind our colored vase fronts.

2. Adding Depth with Ink Blending

To create dimension on flat die cuts, I applied custom ink blending along the base and curves of the vases. Specifically, I shaded the pink vases with Razzleberry and Velvet inks to create rich shadows. Furthermore, I ink-blended the Hunter Green and Amazon Teal foliage with deep Sapphire ink to give the leafy stems natural depth.

3. Assembling the Potted Botanicals

Once the inking was dry, I adhered the fussy-cut embossed white pieces directly behind the colored vase die cuts with Bearly Art liquid glue. Consequently, the embossed pearl white patterns puff through the die-cut openings, creating an elevated, dimensional look. Next, I glued the layered green and teal plant stems directly into the necks of the vases.

4. Building the Script Stenciled Background

For the card front, I cut a panel from Classic Crest Smooth Solar White. Then, I positioned the Altenew Paper Echoes Stencil over the panel. Using a palette knife, I spread a smooth layer of Brutus Monroe Chroma Glaze in Brass across the vintage script design. The glaze dries with a stunning, metallic sheen that catches the light beautifully. Once dry, I added a few light blue ink splatters across the panel to tie the colors together.

5. Final Assembly & Embellishments

For the final step, I mounted the glazed script panel onto an A2 card base made from Classic Crest Smooth Solar White 130 lb. I adhered the two outer pink vases directly flat onto the stenciled background with liquid glue. Next, I applied foam tape behind the center Dawn Maroon vase to pop it forward. I added a foiled “Feel Better Soon” sentiment strip popped up on foam tape above the plants. Finally, I used a white gel pen to add clean shine marks along the vases and leaves.
