Said with Love
Hello, Melissa here. I’m sharing a card today that I feel are the hardest to make but make the most beautiful cards. Sympathy cards. No one likes making them because they mean someone you care about is grieving, maybe you yourself are one of the bereaved. But I think when a sympathy card has to be made, I slow down, I meditate over each element to make sure who I am sending it to knows just how much they mean to me.
Let’s gather our supplies:
- Neenah Classic Crest Solar White
- Lessebo – Dawn
- DCS – Scottish Highlands
- Scrap of vellum
- Embossing folder
- Die cuts to make the flowers
- Other embellishments
Let’s get started! Our first step is to work on the card base.
Cut your card base to the normal A2 size. Then with an edge die place it over the front the card to cut off your desired width.

Make sure when you run this through your die cut machine that you have the card open so you don’t cut both layers. Unless you want to cut both layers. Let’s move on to the next step.
Cut a piece of Dawn card stock (the most gorgeous red ever!) to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. And then cut the 5 1/2 inch side just a sliver more so that your panel fits at the score line but still meets the edge of the base. Before adhering this red panel to the white flap of the base, emboss it. Depending on the embossing folder you choose, you could lightly swipe some white pigment ink to highlight the embossed edges. That wouldn’t work with the folder I chose because it’s too big. Now you can adhere the red panel to the flap of the white base. I always use glue for my cards, but this part, I highly recommend glue because of the embossing. You want to make sure it sticks together.

Now let’s add some details.

I die cut some flowers and a little bit of foliage from Dawn and Scottish Highlands cardstock. And placed those on the flap of the card. You might also notice that I added a gold peel off sticker strip. These are the small touches that make the card really special.
Next with a scrap of vellum, emboss the sentiment with gold embossing powder.

Then finish the card with another small detail. I used Nuvo Vintage Drops for the center of the flowers.

This is such a gorgeous card and the person I sent it to loved it.

Here’s the card fully assembled and the dots are drying. I hope this brings you some inspiration and you try this card style. I would love to see it, if you do.

So pretty. I agree that sympathy cards are difficult to make and to give. Grief is hard.
