Mermaid Bliss

Hello friends, Melissa here with this lovely mixed media mermaid card that I cannot wait to share with you. I think it turned out so pretty. I know – humble, eh?! LOL Let’s get crafty!

Gather your supplies:

  • DCS Dolphin cardstock
  • Stencil – I’m using AALL & Create
  • Nuvo Embellishment Mousse
  • Nymph Card Panels from Brutus Monroe
  • Lindy’s sprays
  • Various embellishments – I’m using dies from AALL & Create

What I really love about the DCS line of cardstocks, they are great for every part of your card. The base isn’t too heavy but it’s not too light. It’s great to layer with and I’m in love with tone-on-tone layers! And it’s a great weight to hold pastes or embellishment mousse without making it collapse.

I’ve got my supplies together but I later pull in more that I forgot to photograph.

The first step you want to make your A2 (or preferred size) card base and set aside. Cut a panel that is 4 x 5 1/4. This is where we’ll used the stencil and embellishment mousse.

I used 3 colors of mousse, but if you prefer to use a single color, it’s your card. You do you! I really do love the slight ombre look I achieved and this stencil from AALL & Create is just so cool and so versatile. It worked perfectly to look like lots of bubbles, too. But let’s move on. Once your paste is dry, distress the edges. I have a distress tool but a dear friend of mine just uses a plastic knife.

I distressed the edges and then used this Lindy’s spray on the distressed edges. Because the card is frayed, the fibers will soak up the color and it looks so cool. I didn’t control the spray in any way, I just allowed it touch wherever it landed.

Did you know you can use embellishment mousse to color the cardstock? You can! I used a scrap of Dolphin card and rubbed the mousse all over it. Let it dry, which in this heat, it literally took seconds! I then die cut some bits and bobs from an AALL & Create die set. I didn’t photograph it, but you’ll see them in the next picture.

We’re ready to assemble. Before I stuck anything down, I sized and distressed and tore my focal image. I didn’t want to cover up all the lovely stenciling so the panel needed to be sized down without losing any of the gorgeous detail. You cannot tell she is a mermaid but I promise she came from the Nymph Card Panels. Anyway, I tore some of the edges and then brushed some ink on the white torn edges to get rid of the stark white edges.

Here in my finished photo of the card you can see that added the bits and bobs here and there to decorate just a bit more. And also, to give a layer for my sentiment.

I do hope this card inspires you! Thanks for the visit.
