Creating Multiple Backgrounds with One Die

As a card maker, I’m always looking for ways to add multiple cards to my stash for those occasions that seem to pop up either unexpectedly or quickly. Birgit here with you today with an idea for creating multiple backgrounds using one die and multiple colored cardstock.

The Supplies:

The supplies I used are #80 Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, #80 DCS Blue Calico, #83 Lessebo Salt Water Blue, #83 Lessebo Arctic Blue, #80 DCS Patriot Blue, #80 DCS Dolphin Gray, #110 Royal Sundance Felt Natural, #80 DCS Habanero Red.

Creating the Background:

To begin with, I die cut the background die 5 times, out of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Lessebo Salt Water, Lessebo Arctic Blue, DCS Patriot and DCS Blue Calico. Using this variety of colors will allow me to create multiple backgrounds, thus making multiple cards.

As you can see on the top left background panel, I blended some Distress Oxide Inks onto the Neenah Classic Crest Solar White pieces, to give the appearance of a sunset sky and sand on the beach. I then mounted each of these three backgrounds onto an A2 size, top folding card base, made with Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. Now I’ll turn each of these three backgrounds into completed cards.

Creating the Cards:

To create the focal points, I used fun ocean themed dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs to create the three cards. This crab was cut from DCS Habanero Red and his shell was cut from Royal Sundance Felt cardstock. I sponged a bit of Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink around him to add depth.

You’ll find that this cute crab, a whale and a lighthouse all fit these card backgrounds perfectly.

Finally, to finish the cards off, I stamped sentiments onto each of the cards.

The Finished Cards:

I think these cards turned out great, and I’ve just added three cards to my stash using one background die. I still have pieces left over to make more backgrounds for future cards.
