Aurora Borealis Birthday Card

Hi everyone, Toni here with you today. Are you fortunate enough to live where you can see the aurora borealis? I live in the PNW so have seen it a number of times, but not always by the naked eye. Sometimes a faint aurora is better seen through your phone’s camera. Just set it to a slow shutter speed and watch the magic show up. It’s so very pretty and always puts on a unique show. Of course, this makes for a perfect aurora borealis birthday card.

Creating the Background

I wanted a magical background, one that shimmers like the aurora borealis. Thus, I used Stardream Aquamarine Metallic cardstock as the card base. Notice how beautifully it sponged with Catherine Pooler inks. I love that the shimmer of the Stardream Aquamarine Metallic cardstock through the ink is still quite evident even in photographs.

To complete the card background, I cut out a scrap piece of Pop Tone Sour Apple cardstock with a hill die and sponged a bit of dark green ink on it.

coloring the Images

Using Copics, I colored up a couple of ultra cute Lawn Fawn images that pair so very well with this scene. Next, I perched them right on top of that hill so they have the perfect spot to view the sky.

The SENTIMENT

I think my favorite part of this card is the “make a wish” cut from CCS Silver 8.5×11 74lb Discount Glitter cardstock. Talk about sparkle and shine! The recipient better pull out their sunglasses!

To create a shadow effect and to help distinguish the sentiment from the background, I added an offset black layer which adds such wonderful visual dimension.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my aurora borealis birthday card. Have a great rest of your day! For a full list of products used on this project, visit my blog.
