Ocean Inspired Thank You Card

Hey everybody, happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great week! Are you inspired by specific things or events that lead you into your creative endeavors? For me, the answer to that is a hard ‘sometimes yes’ and ‘sometimes no’, lol. I typically fly by the seat of my pants and create whatever pops into my head. However, today’s card was inspired by my love of the water. Leslie here, sharing an ocean inspired thank you card with pretty cardstock, shimmery foil and a super cute sea turtle. I used Savoy Cotton cardstock along with Surf, Hummingbird, and Caribbean Blue. Then, toward the end I brought in Vanilla Bean Brown and Ginger Snap. And, of course, my go-to for card bases and layering panels is typically Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.

Create the Background

I cut a piece of Savoy Cotton cardstock because my original plan was to do some ink blending. Then I remembered the lonely stencils and foiling products in my drawer, so I changed gears. In addition to awesome ink blending, our Savoy Cotton cardstock is a great choice for foiling. Using the pressure technique, I ran this panel with Transfer Gel Duo and Glass Slipper Transfer Sheets through the Big Shot. It created the perfect background for this ocean inspired thank you card.

Cut the Card Base & Layers

First, cut a side-folding A2 size card base from 110# Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.

Next, using stitched rectangle dies, cut layering panels from Surf and Hummingbird cardstock along with frames from Caribbean Blue.

Similarly, cut the foiled background panel with a stitched rectangle die, reserving a piece for an inside embellishing strip.

And finally, cut an inside layering panel from 80# Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.

Create the Focal Image for the Ocean Inspired Thank You

Die cut the sea turtle from Hummingbird cardstock and fussy cut a backing from Caribbean Blue. My thought process for this step changed, so be sure to read through to the end. 😉

Adhere the Layers

FRONT: Start by adhering the narrow Caribbean Blue frame around the outside edge of the main Surf background panel.

Additionally, adhere the foiled layer to the Hummingbird panel. Adhere this piece to the main background panel, popping it up on foam strips.

INSIDE: Now adhere the foiled embellishing strip to the top of the inside Solar White panel. Insert this panel into the Caribbean Blue frame, using washi tape on the back side to hold it in place.

Add the Sentiments

Stamp the front sentiment in teal ink on a scrap piece of Solar White and cut it with a stitched circle die.

Stamp the inside sentiment in the same teal ink directly onto the Solar White panel.

It was at this point that I brought in the Vanilla Bean Brown and Ginger Snap to re-do the sea turtle. I loved the monochromatic look with the Hummingbird and Caribbean Blue cardstock, but he blended in too much. I have to say I love this brown version better. He’s much more pronounced – the way he should be!

I added a few clear enamel dots for the water bubbles. Then, to finish the card off, I adhered the inside panel to the inside of the card base.

Summing up, these are the other products I used:
STAMPS: Hero Arts Mermaid Kisses Stamps
INK: Catherine Pooler Sea Glass ink
