Best of 2024 Scrapbook Layout
Hi, Cassie here with you today. As we approach 2025, I find myself looking back at some of my most cherished scrapping highlights from 2024. This year has been filled with creativity, accomplishments, and moments worth celebrating. While reflecting on the past year, I also set some exciting new goals for 2025 to keep my creative journey moving forward.
Getting Started
To capture my scrapping highlights for 2024, I decided to feature a photo of my top nine Instagram posts from the year as the centerpiece of my layout. This photo not only showcases the projects I’m most proud of but also brings a sense of nostalgia and accomplishment.
With the photo selected, I compiled a list of my top scrappy moments from the year. This list became the foundation of my layout design. To tie everything together, I chose a pie chart cut file with six sections, symbolizing different aspects of my creative journey.
For the design elements, I turned to the Let’s Scrapbook collection by Bella Blvd. The vibrant colors and playful patterns inspired me to pick coordinating cardstocks that would bring my vision to life.
Choosing the Colors

For the pie chart & layout, I selected a mix of bright, cheerful colors that reflected the energy and joy of my highlights:
- DCS Canvas Textured Lava Stone Gray cardstock (cut file & background)
- DCS Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White cardstock (phrase strips)
- DCS Black cardstock (photo mat)
- DCS Pearlized Textured Jet Stream Blue cardstock
- Lessebo Bubble Gum Pink cardstock
- DCS Textured Indigo Blue cardstock
- DCS Textured Pearl Hummingbird Teal cardstock
- Pop Tone Grape Jelly cardstock
- Pop Tone Lemon Drop cardstock
These colors came together beautifully, creating a vibrant and cohesive pie chart layout.

Adding Color to the Background
To add depth and dimension to my layout, I decided to ink the patterned paper background. I selected colors that coordinated with the cardstock. Using Tim Holtz Distress Inks, I created a watercolor effect with the following shades:
- Tumbled Glass
- Prize Ribbon
- Peacock Feathers
- Picked Raspberry
- Seedless Preserves
- Mustard Seed

Here’s how I achieved the effect:
- Tracing the Design: I traced around the pie chart cut file onto the patterned paper and marked the boundaries of each section.
- Adding Ink: On a glass mixed media mat, I smeared the chosen ink color, added a few drops of water, and used a brush to create splatters and soft washes in each section.
- Blending and Shadows: I painted along the pencil lines to create a subtle color shadow effect behind the pie chart cut file.
The result was a beautifully painted and textured circle that perfectly complemented the layout.

Assembling the Layout

Once the ink was dry, I adhered the patterned paper to a base of Lava Stone Gray cardstock for added stability and contrast. To enhance the texture, I stitched messy circles over the inked shadows, adding a whimsical touch.
I mounted the pie chart cut file using foam adhesive tape for dimension and placed my photo at the center. For the title, I used bold, playful lettering to highlight the theme of the layout.
To label each pie chart section, I typed my highlights onto Wedding Cake White cardstock. I used a typewriter, cut them into strips, and adhered them to their respective sections. Finally, I embellished the layout with die cuts and stickers from the Bella Blvd collection, adding a touch of charm and personality.

This layout is a celebration of the creative journey I’ve enjoyed throughout 2024. It gave me a chance to reflect on the moments that brought me joy and inspiration while looking ahead to new possibilities in 2025. I love how this project turned out and hope it inspires you to take a moment to document your own highlights from the past year. Here’s to a new year of creativity and discovery!
