Holy Moly!!! Can you believe that August is almost over and this insanely HOT summer will be replaced with the crisp leaves and cool breezes of fall!? While I am totally ready for the cooler weather, I am not ready for this summer to end! It will mean the beginning of the school year and I just am not prepared for it. Y’all, it is my baby’s senior year of high school. After this year, I will be done ”raising” my kiddos and this phase of my life will be complete. I’ve been doing this “Mommy thing” since 1997. Twenty five years and five kids later, I will have successfully raised them to be amazing adults. All will have graduated, four in the top of their class. What comes after this?
Ugh! It makes my brain hurt and my heart ache…so how about we get back to the “here and now”! I created this layout to commemorate Skye’s “last first day”. I wanted it to be fun and whimsical so that I smile rather than cry when I look at it ten years from now.

Getting Scrappy
I have been dying to try my hand at the huge page sized cut files that have gotten so popular. When I saw this one from Peartree Cutfiles, I knew immediately that it was the one for the job! It actually says: that SUMMER feeling. In my head, I started singing, “You’ve Lost That Summer Feeling”. (to the tune of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling) After my Cricut did all the work of cutting out the huge title with 12×12 DCS Heavyweight White Glitter Cardstock, I set to work using my rainbow of scraps to back the letters. I have all of my scraps gathering in a large ziplock bag, just waiting to be used up. What better way to create a bright and cheerful layout than by using ALL the colors! I used scraps in yellow, pink, purple, green, Blue, and Aqua.

Special Touches
Since the title was actually about summer, I had to add a few special touches to enhance the feeling of “loosing” the summer feeling…aka…going back to school! Using Basis Light Yellow Cardstock, I added in a #2 pencil that I made by rolling paper. To complete the “look, Pearlized Textured Fruit Punch makes the eraser, and Silver Bright Foil makes the perfect metal binding!

I also went through my stash and found a few VERY old pieces that I thought would be perfect. A book worm, an apple, and a few stars definitely incorporated the “school” element that I was looking for! My layout was coming together perfectly, and summer was giving way beautifully to school. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to make the thoughts in my head translate onto paper., but, this was exactly what I had imagined. The bright colors of my scraps inspired the perfect rainbow of happy thoughts. No sad thoughts of Empty Nesting for this Mama!!

Faux Stitching around the title, distressing around the edges of the paper, and inking on some edges help to give the POP that it needed. After adding in a few more elements to create a personalized touch, my layout was complete. How easy was that!! From Start to finish, this took me just over an hour. Scrapbooking does not have to be difficult!
