Birthday Card & Matching Envelope

Hi there all my Cardstock Loving Friends! Misty (@Mommyofkidz) here today sharing my latest creation. Do you ever have trouble figuring out what to get your adult kids or friends for their birthday? Well, I have been struggling with that recently, as ALL of my kids are now officially ADULTS. I am at a loss- other than the obvious gift cards or cash. However, I believe that EVERYONE deserves to feel special on their ONE day a year that they are given. But…how do I accomplish this? Well…the answer is easy and always ends with…use my CutCardStock to MAKE THEM SOMETHING!
Since my oldest daughter will be 24 on Saturday the 13th, I decided to make a birthday card for her. Now, to be clear, I am going out on a limb in hopes that she will appreciate it. She is not really the crafty type, but she does LOVE pretty things…so…fingers crossed! While it will still be stuffed with gift cards or cash, at least the wrapping will be pretty!

Getting Started…

To begin, I chose the color scheme that I would use. Since purple is her favorite color (besides black), that is where I started. After tossing in a variety of aquas and blues, I had found the perfect mix. Next, I needed to decide on how to decorate the card. Therefore, I used my handy-dandy Cricut Maker 3 and cut a sunburst file scaled down. Once it was all gathered, I began backing the futile with the pretty colors. I also cut my daughter’s name and backed it with Cougar WHITE heavy 160 lb. cardstock.

In addition to the Cougar White, my Cardstock selection is as follows:
Lessebo Colors Premium AMETHYST
Stardream Metallic AMETHYST
Stardream Metallic PUNCH
DCS Discount Card Stock: Plum Purple
Lessebo Colors AMAZON Dark Teal
Lessebo Colors Premium ARCTIC BLUE
Stardream Metallic AQUAMARINE
DCS Canvas Textured Wedding Cake White  (For cutfile)

Making the Matching Envelope

With the front design complete, I made sure it was going to work well with the Gatefold A7 Card base. It was perfection! I arranged the letters of her name on the front for placement, but did not glue anything down at this point. Now it was time to work on the matching envelope. I started with a pretty Curious Metallic A7 Envelope in Violette. While it is gorgeous alone, I decided to decorate it a bit. Starting with the FRONT, I used my Tombow Mono Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to completely cover the flap. I then adhered it to the cardstock that I had chosen and trimmed it down to size. Next, I dug deep into my archaic tools and pulled out some punches. One was to punch the holes to run my ribbon the length of the flap, and the other was to add that feminine touch with scallops.

Final Touches…

Ohhhh how I am loving my envelope! I know it is just an envelope, and more often than not, these will get tossed into the garbage. However, with any luck, my daughter will hold on to this one! To finish everything up, all I needed to do was assemble a few flowers, line the inside of the card, and glue it all down. I selected a few purple and aqua flowers for the card and added some pearl beads. Since this was a sunburst cutfile, with no actual sun, I chose to cover that spot with the floral cluster. Beautiful! Usually, this is where I end up going overboard with the embellishments. However this time, I made myself STOP and enjoy the simple beauty!

Go that EXTRA step!

Since this is for my own daughter, I could have just handed her some cash, said, “Happy Birthday,Brat”, and been done. However, we only get ONE birthday a year, and it should be special. Homemade gifts always make the recipient feel extra special. CutCardStock makes it easy to accomplish with their vast selection and incredible sales. This month, you can catch envelopes on sale so that you, too, can make a matching set!
