Foiling, embossing, and inking – Oh My!

A new card kit came in the mail today. As soon as I saw it I knew I needed to use the pocket die with some shimmery cardstock and some ink blending! So I decided to make a Father’s Day card and used several different cardstocks from CutCardStock.

I started with a small piece of Cougar Super Smooth 80# cardstock to stamp my images on and needed to decide whether to use the kitty or the puppy or both! This cardstock is wonderful for alcohol marker coloring; it blends so well on this cardstock. Using two-color blending for the heart, I started with dark red around the edges and blended a lighter red in the center.

I cut the pocket from Pearlized Textured Jet Stream Blue which has the perfect texture for a denim look! The light blue gave some great highlight when I ink blended a darker blue around the edges.

Using the same dark blue ink and a mini blending brush, I blended the same dark blue ink along the stitching lines on the pocket. I love the look this gives!

I cut a stitched rectangle from from Stardream Metallic Opal cardstock for the background panel. Next, I used a basket weave type embossing folder to give this panel a little more interest.

How cute! I love the metallic cardstock!

The precut and pre scored A2 card bases are another product I use ALL the time in 110# weight. This cardstock is heavyweight and makes such a nice card base. Foam tape was used on the embossed panel to add a little dimension.

I’m using the pocket as a gift card holder. It’s kind of a tight fit so I flipped it over, put the card in place, and added foam tape around the edges.

Guess what else you can do with the smooth metallic cardstock?! Use some hot foil! Metallic blue foil used with a Father’s Day sentiment hot foil plate worked great with the Stardream Metallic Opal cardstock.

I put the foil plate with the words facing up and the foil down with the blue side touching the foil plate and the cardstock on top. (My “Platform Ready” light wasn’t on yet…oops! I waited until it came on, pressed the button, and waited until it was ready before putting it through my die cutting machine).

And this is what it looks like all put together! I had so much fun with this card using some of my favorite techniques. I hope you enjoyed and I can’t wait to see what you create!
