Santa’s Magic Key

Hello and Happy Day After Christmas! Misty (@Mommyofkidz) here with you today to share a super quick craft that I made for my kids when they were little, and now I get to make for my niece’s Littles, and hopefully, someday, my own Grandchildren! It became a tradition in my home to set out the “Magic Key” for Santa. When my niece moved into her apartment, her son, who is now 5, asked her how Santa was going to get in so that he could leave presents. Well, I had just the answer! Give Santa a Magic Key! I gathered my supplies to make this super cute, super quick craft.

Quick and Easy!

Who am I kidding? This is the holidays, and no one has time to be CRAFTING!! Well, I promise you, this is super quick. I gathered a few things including my new Lessebo Dawn Maroon, Lessebo Hunter Green, and Classic Crest Ivory cardstocks. I also used twine, ribbon, sprinkles, and Nuvo drops to add detail. After my materials were gathered, I opened Cricut Design Space and located the Santa’s Magic Key tag that I wanted to use. It was a “Print then Cut” style, so I put the Classic Crest Ivory cardstock in my HP Printer and printed out the cute tag. You can see all my measurements in the photos that I have included.

Once the printing part was complete, it was time to cut. Now, I am going to be REAL honest with you. I am LAZY. There, I said it. I am a LAZY CRAFTER! I did not see the point in pulling out a cutting mat and running this through my Cricut-when I have hand tools that will do the EXACT SAME THING-but QUICKER. Therefore, I pulled out my 12 inch trimmer and my handy dandy hole punch to finish the tag.

Finishing it Up:

Once the Tag was prepped and cut, I used the edge of my scissors to add a bit of distressing to the edges of the cardstock. Next, I used the clay sprinkles and Nuvo drops to add some details to the tag. Y’all, since this is a predesigned tag, it did not require a lot of decorating. This took me a whole fifteen minutes to this point. After decorating the Classic Crest Ivory cardstock, I decided i wanted a few more tags behind it. I cut a red and a green tag as well, and put a hole punch in those. This was going to allow me to tie the pieces together using the twine and ribbon.

After tying the three pieces together and adding the ‘Magic Key” this was technically finished! I did decide to add Nuvo drops to enhance the borders of the red and green, but that was super easy! The Magic Key was now COMPLETE! Also, with the addition of the extra blank tags, I have the option to add photos later if I decide to turn this into a mini album for my Niece! **I probably will!!
