Howdy all you crafty-creative people out there! Misty here to share a super simple scrapbook layout with you today. As you all know, 2022 is gone and 2023 is well under way. However, that doesn’t mean you have to stop documenting the events from last year! January is a time for fresh starts, but is also a time for finishing things up. That is why my layout today features photos of my daughters and I from our trip to see the Nutcracker at the Houston Ballet in December. It was glorious!!! If you’ve never been, you should definitely go!

Since There was so much color and so many lights, I decided to print my photos in black and white for this layout. I also knew that I wanted the blue and purple tones, so I pulled out all of the ones that I thought would go well together. Once I had enough gathered, I started cutting my leaves for my wreath. Stardream Metallic Amethyst, Stardream Metallic Ruby, Stardream Metallic Vista, and Stardream Metallic Pluto got me started, but I needed a few others. I also used the amazing Gold Foil Cardstock , Curious Metallic Violette, and Curious Metallic Royal Blue, but both of these have been discontinued. If you want to try to color match, I would recommend that if you try the DCS Plum Purple and DCS Blast Off Blue, as they are both almost EXACT color matches!

Prep Work

Once I decided on my photos and cardstocks, I had to start preparing. I had to cut out leaves from all of those colors to create the look I was wanting on my wreath. I used a couple of cutfiles from Peartree Cutfiles to get the variety of sizes that I was wanting. Once I had finished, I had over 150leaves to create this layout!

Finishing it Up

Once I had the foundation laid, it was time to build the layout. An 8 1/2 in circle in the center of my background backed with a wood grain paper was just perfect! Not to mention how perfectly the colors all matched! From this point, it was simply a matter of gluing the leaves in place, and hoping for the best! Of course I did have something that resembled a plan for the order that I would place them. With over 150 sprigs of leaves, I had to decide how to place them to make them all fit.

Good-bye December

With the leaves arranged and the photos in place, I was able to sit back and smile with my memories. THIS is why I scrapbook! Now that everything is arranged, I didn’t even feel the need to add any mixed media. Even though I only added two or three embellishments, this layout felt complete. With hidden journaling tucked behind the photos and a shiny golden title piece, I bid December Good Bye!

I'm just a Mom and a Wife getting crafty and loving her life.
Sometimes it is chaos...sometimes it's sweet...
Sometimes I wave the white flag and Retreat.
With ten kids between my hubby and I,
There's never a dull moment and the years fly by.
My scrapbooks are full and my craft room's a mess,
So many projects---so little rest!
My son is my Angel, guiding my way
He gives me my strength and reminds me each day...
To take lots of pictures and love without measure
"When a picture is all you have, that picture becomes a treasure."
