Happy Fall Birthday Card

EDITORIAL NOTE: This tutorial was written and scheduled by Toni Maddox prior to her recent passing. We are publishing it now with permission from her family to honor her incredible talent, dedication, and lasting contributions to our design team.

Hello, my friends! Is Autumn treating you well? Personally, I love fall with the crisp weather and changing foliage — just so pretty! In celebration, I chose to make a happy fall birthday card.

The Background

To begin, I sponged a diecut leaf pattern plate cut from Cougar White cardstock using a variety of Catherine Pooler inks. For the most part I used whatever ink remained on my brushes as I wanted muted tones so as not to compete with the topper.

Although I considered using Pop Tone Sno Cone cardstock for the background, I instead opted for the brighter Pop Tone Blue Raspberry cardstock. Now there’s that pop of blue sky I love so much!

The Basket of pumpkins

Admittedly, assembling the basket and pumpkins took a bit of time but was it so worth it. Please see below for a full list of the cardstocks I used.

Needless to say, I’m really glad I had a wax picker tool for all those pieces!

Finishing touches

Once I had assembled the basket of pumpkins, I decided they blended too well with the background. Thus, Curious Translucent Clear cardstock to the rescue! Also, I spattered the background leaves to differentiate it a bit more from the similar colors on top.

Finally, I embossed the sentiment on DCS Sand Castle Tan cardstock and added shading with Copics.

As always, thanks for stopping by and checking out my happy fall birthday card. For a full list of products used on this project, be sure to visit my blog, Frankie Helps Craft.
