Create an Elegant Winter Wedding Card

Hi everyone! It’s Jessica here. I would like to create an elegant winter wedding card with you today. My favorite colors for wedding themed cards are navy, gray, and sage green. Since this card is for a wedding in November, I picked navy and decided to create a monochrome card.

Step 1

Let’s start with heat embossing a wedding cake image. This stamp is actually from the Happy Birthday to You set by Stampin’ Up, but isn’t it so perfect as a wedding cake? You could, of course, turn this into a birthday card, too.  I inked up the stamp with VersaMark ink and stamped on Strathmore 100% Cotton Watercolor 5×7 cardstock. I love this watercolor cardstock since the colors blend beautifully without leaving paint strokes. The texture of the paper is smooth as well, which makes heat embossing a detailed image like this like a breeze – no need to heat emboss twice! I opted for white heat embossing powder to create a soft outline.

Step 2

Next, let’s add some colors with watercoloring. I stamped Night Sky and Starlite Black inks onto an acrylic block and colored the flowers and leaves with a waterbrush. For the cake, I wanted to keep it white as a classic wedding cake, so I painted with Sheer Shimmer Spray in Sparkle. I spritzed it onto the craft mat and colored with a waterbrush as well. The subtle shimmer adds such a wow factor! I then added Starlite Black to some of the lines to create soft shadows.

Step 3

Then, we are ready to create the background panel. I trimmed DCS Wild Blueberry Navy 4×6 cardstock to 3 ½’’ x 4 ¾’’. This is a gorgeous shade of navy, and it’s very similar to Classic Crest Patriot Blue cardstock, which I will use for the cardbase. I also splattered on white acrylic paint to add a little bit of interest to this background.

Step 4

The Happy Birthday to You stamp set comes with a coordinating die set. I really like the twigs and sprigs dies – they will complement the wedding cake florals very well. I decided to die cut with Bright Foil Silver and Curious Translucent cardstock since these are neutral colors that do not take away from the navy monochrome color scheme.

Step 5

Lastly, trim a piece of Curious Translucent cardstock to 4’’ x 5 ½’’ and emboss with the Subtle embossing folder. Since this vellum cardstock is heavyweight, it embossed beautifully without cracks, and I did not have to adjust the embossing sandwich. Our elegant winter wedding card is complete!
