Magical Summer Birthday Card

Hello, friends! Toni here with a magical summer birthday card featuring two adorable fairies. Perhaps fairies bring to mind lightning bugs for you too?

The plaid background

As you know, I am a huge fan and proponent of the Savoy 100% Cotton cardstock. It’s so “spongy” and dense that it really impresses well. Therefore, I eagerly used it with my new letterpress plate along with Catherine Pooler inks to create the plaid background.

Obviously, I chose the inks of the background to coordinate with the Lawn Fawn blossoms and flower border. But, I only impressed once to keep the colors light.

The flower border and blossoms

I had cut the border from Cougar White cardstock and sponged it with green. Continuing, I cut the blossoms from Lessebo Misty Blue, Lessebo Arctic Blue, Cougar White and Pop Tone Lemon Drop cardstocks. In addition, I cut the flower stems from Pop Tone Sour Apple cardstock. I arranged the blossoms to leave a bit of an opening for the colored images.

In the pic you can see that I has also experimented with Pop Tone Red Hot cardstock but ultimately opted to go with a more subtle palette (for once!).

Whimsical SUMMER Fairies

With the scene set, I stamped the Lawn Fawn fairies on Cougar White cardstock and colored them up with Copics.

Shout out to the Cougar cardstock for being so suited to using with Copics. I was very pleasantly surprised! And didn’t the fairies turn out ever so cute!?!

For my final step, I used Cougar White cardstock for the banner sentiment which I had stamped with Versafine Clair Nocturne.
