Happiness Comes in Waves Nautical Card

When you travel for vacation or otherwise, do you send postcards to friends and family? Is that even still a thing or am I showing my age? LOL. Obviously, I was inspired by postage and postcards in designing my nautical card. Don’t you agree there’s just something so fun about receiving or sending a postcard to let someone know you’re thinking of them.

The Postage Background

To begin, I diecut the Pinkfresh Studio postage die from Cougar White cardstock. Using a mask to maintain a white border, I sponged the aperture with Catherine Pooler inks to represent water. Next, I spattered that with a bit of water and set it aside to dry.

The underwater elements

Using a variety of dies from Waffle Flower, Birch Press Design and Lawn Fawn, I constructed the scene. Notice how I sponged the crab, sand and seaweed with Catherine Pooler inks for additional color variation and depth.

The finishing Touches

As I began to explore layout options, I found that I wasn’t satisfied with the anchor. I love that CCS Silver Glitter cardstock but it just didn’t stand out as I had intended. Therefore, I cut the anchor a shadow from the center of an A2 panel of Classic Crest Patriot Blue Heavyweight cardstock. The remainder of that panel served beautifully as the card front, really making the postage edges to pop.

Finally, I tucked, layered and adhered the diecut components to the card front, leaving room for an embossed stamp-sized sentiment.
