Marvelous Metallic Monochrome!

I cannot get enough of the Stardream Metallic cardstock! (PS, it is on sale for the month of May! Click the link at the bottom of this post to check out all the beautiful colors!)Today, I am sharing a metallic monochromatic card made with paper strips!

I started using a die that cuts out 1/2″ strips with stitched edges to cut from three different blues in the Stardream Metallic line : Aquamarine, Sapphire, and Lapis Lazui. I absolutely love these colors together!

I think the easiest way to add strips of paper to your background to cover your panel with double sided adhesive. I used an A2 panel that I cut from the Cougar Super Smooth 80# cardstock – I like to use a lighter cardstock for this since we are adding more cardstock on top.

I started by just adding a strip across the center at a diagonal and then repeating with my pattern. I try to line one edge of the strip just hanging over the edge a little bit, so when I cut off the extra at the other end, I have bigger pieces that can be used again.

I just used scissors to go along the edge of my panel, upside down, to cut off the excess. I will sometimes use a paper trimmer to do this, but I knew I was going to be die cutting from this anyway, so I didn’t need perfectly straight edges.

How cute is that when all the excess is cut off! You could leave it like this for your background, but I wanted to do something a little different with it.

I wanted the background panel of my card to be the lightest of the blues, so I cut down the Stardream Metallic Aquamarine to an A2 panel and used a background stamp to add a little interest. I stamped with embossing ink and added some clear sparkle embossing powder. This gives a really subtle and pretty effect.

I also cut down the paper stripped panel using a stitched oval and put foam tape on the back because I wanted some dimension. I used one of the A2 110# precut and prescored card bases and adhered the aquamarine embossed panel directly to that and added the oval on top.

I added a die cut sentiment with a white embossed sub-greeting to finish off the card! I used one of the leftover strips to emboss the sub-greeting on – it was the perfect finishing touch!

I hope you enjoyed this project today and I would love to see what you create with all of the gorgeous metallic cardstock over at the Cut Cardstock shop! Tag me @purple_puppy_papercrafting on Instagram.

  1. I very much love this card you created. 😍 Thanks for clear instructions and pictures 😄 I especially love that you stepped out of the box, (well, out of the box for me) and embossed the metallic background panel. I zoomed in on the panel, it is so beautiful and added awesome to this card. I just loaded my cart up with some of the metallic cardstock, 😂. Thanks for sharing!
