Monochromatic Watercolor Layout

Spring is in full swing here in the Pacific Northwest and that also means that it is finally the season of Farmers Markets.  We love to wander through our local farmers market in search of yummy food, fresh produce, beautiful flowers and fun handmade goods.  It is this family activity that has inspired my layout today.

Getting Started

For this project I wanted to focus on a  pretty watercolored background paper and pair it with cardstock. I went through my cardstock and picked out the following colors to use on this page.  I also added a piece of dark blue cardstock and a clear translucent piece for this layout.

DCS Canvas Textured Blue Hydrangea cardstock

Stardream Metallic Quartz cardstock

DCS Textured Indigo Blue cardstock

Curious Translucent Clear cardstock

I started by using my Silhouette Cameo to cut a 10 inch circle out of the Blue Hydrangea cardstock.  I then added some smooshed watercolor splatters on the background patterned paper around the circle cutout.  I layered several of the shades of blue watercolors using this method to create extra dimension on the background.

I decided to use four photos on this page, two of the floral bouquets and two of some of the food options from our farmers market. I backed the photos with a layer of the Stardream Metallic Quartz cardstock and the Curious Translucent Clear cardstock.

Finishing the Page

I started by tucking two of the photos behind the cardstock circle frame before machine stitching circles around the edges. Finally, I added the other two photos using some foam tape for some added height.  I then added my title using puffy alpha stickers.  It was at this point that I pulled out the Indigo Blue cardstock, some metal leaf dies and my Sizzix Big Shot to create some leaf clusters around the circle next to the photos.

To finish the page, I added some blue and white splatters, some blue enamel dots and some phrase stickers. When I started pulling all the pieces together for this page I didn’t imagine that this page would end up being monochromatic, but I am loving how all the blues work with the photos on this layout.
