Simple, Elegant Notecards with Bordered Card Flats
There are so many possibilities with the bordered cards and flat cards on sale this month at Cutcardstock.com! I LOVE that you don’t have to waste good cardstock to make a nice border for your cards. It’s so easy to create an elegant gift with these beautiful note cards in minutes!
Supplies: Curious Metallic Bordered A2 Flat cards – Gold Leaf with black border (found here) Black A2 envelopes (found here) Cardstock – Black Licorice and Whipped Cream by Pop Tones (found here) Ribbon – I used two ribbons layered together you’ll need 18″ for the simple look or about 30″ for the bow Circle punches 1 ½” circle and 1 ¾”scallop Alphabet stamp set (I used Old World Alphabet by CTMH) 3D Foam Tape Black Embossing Powder Versamark Ink Pad Embossing Gun
Step 1: Ink the monogram of your choice in VersaMark Ink. Stamp where desired on the card front.
Step 2: Cover the image in black embossing powder. Tap off the excess. Heat with embossing tool about 2” from the project. Use a circular motion with the heat tool; don’t leave the heat tool in one place too long or you could scorch your paper. You will see the embossing powder change from a grainy, matte finish to a raised, shiny finish. When the entire image is raised and shiny, remove from heat. Repeat on each card.
Step 3: Punch a scalloped circle out of Pop Tones Black Licorice cardstock. Using a ribbon slot punch, punch holes in the center of the circle. If your slots are not long enough for the ribbon you’ve selected, line up the punch again just above or below the existing holes to enlarge them.
Step 4: Thread your ribbon through the holes on the black scalloped circle.
Step 5: On Pop Tones Whipped Cream cardstock, stamp the monogram again and emboss as above. Do not punch the circle first, as you need the extra surrounding cardstock to prevent burning your fingers while embossing.
Step 6 Punch out your monogram using the 1 ½” punch, making sure it’s centered. Place 3D foam tape on the back of your monogram.

Step 7: Stack your cards and envelopes together. Wrap the ribbon around the stack. If you would like to have a bow, move your monogram to one side and tie a bow on the other. If you prefer the simple look, adhere one end of the ribbon to the back of your black scalloped circle. Pull the ribbon taut and secure the other end behind the black scallop as well.
Of course, you’re not obligated to give these elegant cards away – you can keep them for use in your own special greetings.
