Hi Friends!! kel here today 🙂 Taking a break from the fall-filled posts with a bright birthday card! I’m here to share a card with you today that ended up so different from what I intended!!
I ran a piece of Sweet Tooth cardstock through my Big Shot . . .
in a beautiful embossing floral folder, and I know some of you notice this is not the embossed panel in my finished card. But bear with me, I promise I’ll explain why!
And since I had it out, ran a piece of Black Licorice through with a thinlit that said “happy” in this gorgeous script.
Here’s what they look like together… I almost just stopped there for my card lol!
I cut all the colorful papers into 1/2″ strips. If you remember a few months back, I made a Best Friends card using 1/2″ strips. Same idea here but this time not creating my entire background from strips!
I covered every bit of a scrap piece of cardstock with adhesive from the Honeycomb Dot Adhesive Roller and then stuck down my strips, making sure to cover the whole piece from end to end.
After trimming off the ends, I was able to use the trimmed-off strips to cover the rest of my piece, so ended up really only using one strip of each for this project. WHOOPS I cut too many haha!!
After looking at the colors together, I decided that floral REALLY didn’t match. So this is where my card ended up completely different! To me, it looked like this strip piece needed to be matched with some unicorns and rainbows!! So I dug through my embossing folders and realized I don’t have a embossing folder with clouds on it (which makes me really sad!) but found this trellis one that is kinda close and definitely works until I find a good cloud embossing folder!
I ran my super skinny “happy” diecut through my trusty (dusty!) Sticker Maker. I did try to dust it off before use, so please pretend you can’t see how dusty it is haha!!
Then I stamped out some matching images. The unicorn I had in mind was WAAAAY too big for the card, but the rainbow and sun worked just fine!!
I had tacked down my strip piece with 3d dots, so needed to be able to tuck the rainbow and sun under the corners… so I just eyeballed it and snipped away!!
See how nicely they tuck in now?
And here’s the finished card, so fun and bright and definitely not floral!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!! Make sure to stay up to date with the latest news and sales on the CutCardstock Facebook Page!! lovies, =o) kel
