Halloween Pups Light Up Card

It’s fun to make Halloween cards but even more fun to make light up ones! Hi, I’m Maureen (A Little Mo Crafty) and these Halloween pups are sure to be a de-light. Literally! So are the fall colors from CutCardStock. Let me show you how I made it.

First, die cut your pieces. I’m using the following colors: Canvas Textured Adobo Orange, Pop Tone Orange Fizz and Lessebo Hunter Green. For the dog, I used DCS Ginger Snap Brown, Classic Crest Solar White and Lessebo Pitch Black. Additionally, I used a slight amount of Basis Soft Pink for the ears. The cut set is from Elizabeth Craft designs.

Next, add dimension by sponging strategic areas on each piece. This extra step adds a lot of dimension! I used a variety of ink colors.

From here, assemble the pieces according to instruction. Additionally, I like to use a small tweezers to help me with little pieces.

To paper-piece the Halloween pups, attach the dog face directly underneath the pumpkin. Insert body into the front layer of the pumpkin. Add the lid to the head.

Now, choose a patterned background for your card. I wanted something subtle so my focal point characters are easy to see. Add a panel cut at 4“ x 5.25“ to the front of an A2 size card.

It’s time to make an opening for your lights! These are from Tim Holtz. First, choose die cut shapes that are a slightly smaller size of your pumpkins. Place them on the front of the A2 card and cut out.

Then you will attach the assembled pumpkins over the holes with some foam tape. This gives you a little space to work with for the lights.

Next, begin threading your light set through the back holes created by these cuts. Carefully wind them around the die cut shapes you’ve placed over the holes. Also, use a small amount of glue or tape to secure wires in place.

Finally, attach the small battery pack to the inside of the card with double-sided tape or other adhesive. If you want to cover the hole, you can attach a spiderweb like I did!

Add any final touches to your Halloween pups as you see fit! I added gel pen detail, and a stamped sentiment to the front. Now you have a dramatic and also fun card to give us a gift! Your recipient can display it at night with the lights on or off.

What are you making for Halloween? Make sure to include some of the fabulous colors they have on the CutCardStock website. Thanks for joining me today!
