Peek-A-Boo Beach Card

Hey everybody, happy Friday! Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? It’s definitely still warm enough to hit the beach and I have some great card inspiration for you today. Leslie here, sharing a tutorial for making an adorable peek-a-boo beach card. This card features Patriot Blue, Basis Blue, Glama Brown Kraft and Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. Despite it’s complex look, it is relatively easy, so let’s get started!

Cut Card Base & Layers

Cut the following two pieces from Patriot Blue:
1. Front panel: 4-1/4″ x 8-1/4″, scored at 5-1/2″.
2. Back panel: 4-1/4″ x 5-3/4″, scored at 5-1/2″.

Next, cut this piece from Basis Blue:
1. Center panel: 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. This piece is a lighter shade of blue so it is easy to distinguish from the other two pieces.

Now, cut two pieces from your choice of patterned paper:
1. Panel for the front: 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″.
2. Inside center panel: 4-1/8″ x 4-1/8″.

Prepare the Peek-A-Boo Beach Card Panels

Firstly, fold the Basis Blue center panel in half on the score line. With the fold on your right, punch a 2-1/4″ circle through both layers in the upper left corner. Note: A die can also be used for this step but I found the punch to be easier. Adhere the narrow flap of the Patriot Blue back panel to the left edge of the folded center panel. Open the folded center panel and flip it over for the next step.

Secondly, adhere the square patterned paper layer to the right side of the opened center panel. Use the same 2-1/4″ circle punch and punch through the patterned paper. An optional step is to create a circular frame to glue around the aperture. Simply punch a 2-1/4″ circle into the lighter blue cardstock and use a slightly larger 2-1/2″ circle punch to create the frame.

Thirdly, adhere the other patterned paper layer to the front panel with the score line on your left. Line up the top, right and bottom edges with the closed center panel and trace around the circular aperture. Using the same 2-1/4″ punch, simply punch through both layers using the pencil line as your guide. Afterwards, adhere this front panel to the center panel, lining up the aperture in both pieces. Follow the optional steps above if you want to glue a frame on this opening as well.

Below is what your card should look like in the correct orientation. Both of your circular apertures should line up with each other. And the short flap on the front panel should be pushed inside so it’s in front of the back panel.

Add Sentiments

Again, open the card, and now glue a Glama Brown Kraft circle to the inside of the back panel. Circle should be 3″ in size and can be punched or die cut. Not having a punch this large, I used a die for this step. Fold the right side of the card over toward the left so the kraft cardstock is visible in the aperture. Stamp a beach-themed sentiment in brown ink.

Additionally, stamp another beach-themed sentiment on the short flap of the front panel. Since I used a darker blue cardstock, I chose to stamp and then heat emboss the sentiment in white. Push the short flap on the front panel inside so it’s in front of the back panel. Test your interactive card now and watch the magic happen! Slowly open the front flap and this sentiment panel will slide to the right, replacing the sentiment in the aperture. Cool, huh?!

Complete the Peek-A-Boo Beach Card

As before, check that the orientation of your card is correct. Ensure the short flap on the front panel is pushed inside so it’s in front of the back panel. Just add a line of glue on that narrow flap where the back panel is attached to the center panel. Press down and allow the glue to dry. Doing this will help keep that short flap in between the front and back panels. We want the interactive part of the card to work as intended for the recipient!

Finally, it’s time to decorate the front and inside panels however you choose. Stamped images on Classic Crest Solar White and fussy cut them. Also used torn Glama Brown Kraft for the sand and assorted brads with the prongs removed. Have fun embellishing your card!
