Heart Day Pop Up Card

Add an interactive surprise to your handmade cards with this heart pop-up pull tab design! Karen here and this fun fold card features a hidden heart that pops up when the tab is pulled, making it perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or anytime you want to share a little love.

Step 1: Create the Card Base

Cut 2 pieces of red cardstock to 4 1/2 x 7 3/4 inches. Score both at 4 and 5 3/4 inches.

Step 2: Emboss the Front Panel

Cut a red cardstock panel to 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches. Run it through an embossing folder to add texture. This subtle pattern adds depth while keeping the design clean and polished.

Step 3: Decorate the Front

Add small gold heart embellishments evenly across the panel for a touch of shine and visual interest. Attach the embossed panel to the card front.

Step 4: Pull Tab Mechanism

Cut a 3 x 3 inch square of white cardstock for the pull tab. Form a triangle in the top right corner measuring 3/4 of an inch in and down from the corner, score and fold down.

Step 5: Secure the Mechanism Inside the Card

Adhere the pull tab inside the card base, making sure it stays hidden when the card is closed. Test the movement before fully pressing down your adhesive.

Attach the card front to the back panel.

Step 6: Create the Pop-Up Heart

Die cut or trim a heart from white cardstock. Add the sentiment to the heart using stamps or dies. This will be the focal point that pops up when the card is opened. Adhere to mechanism.

Step 7: Final Touches

Add a small “Pull” label or die cut to the edge of the card so the recipient knows how to activate the surprise. Check that the heart pops up cleanly and folds flat when closed.
