Wildflower Sunset Sympathy Cards
Do you find sympathy cards difficult to make? It can be hard to balance expressing care while also allowing your creativity to flow. In any case, that’s certainly true for me.
Using nature
At least 90% of the time, I will use nature as the focus for sympathy cards as that speaks to me personally. It has the right gravitas but also, as a maker, it allows me express myself in different creative ways.

Card 1
Let us begin with my first card where I wanted to capture a friend’s warm feelings for her father-in-law. I used Stardream Metallic cardstocks, an unusual choice with its metallic shimmer perhaps, but undeniably beautiful.

First, I sponged Stardream Metallic Eris cardstock with Catherine Pooler inks to create a sunrise/sunset background. Next, I cut out the foliage in Stardream Metallic Fairway cardstock and sponged it with a darker green for an ombre effect.
I added a Pop Tone Black Licorice cardstock shadow to make it stand out from the card front. After embossing the sentiment, I assembled the card front and mounted it on a Lessebo Amazon Dark Teal cardstock base.

Card 2
In the case of the second card, I used a completely different palette and not one I would consider traditional for a sympathy card. Although the colors are “brighter,” the overall effect with a more formal and traditional embossed sentiment is both somber and uplifting.
- Foliage: Classic Crest Patriot Blue Heavyweight cardstock
- Card front: Stardream Metallic Eris cardstock
- Card Base: Curious Metallic Violette paper
