Wooden Egg Decoupage Project

Are you a fan of the colors of spring? They are so bright and cheerful, and full of life! Hi, it’s Maureen today and I will show you a project I made to decorate my mantel. It’s a decoupaged egg sitter using the cheery CutCardStock colors. The fun part of this project is you can use just about any color you want!

To start, I purchased a 7″ by 6″ wooden egg at a dollar store near me. You can also find similar shapes online. I traced the egg onto a sheet of Lessebo Splash Blue. To minimize uneven cuts, I recommend laying the base down at the bottom and tracing up with a pencil. Additionally, I’d trim the egg about 1mm inside your pencil mark for a perfect measurement.

Cut the Lessebo Splash Blue egg out and put it flat on a work surface first. You will use this as a backdrop for large flowers, and will want to see how many flowers you need before adhering to the egg.

I die cut several daisy shapes in Classic Solar White, making a second cut for a double layer. You can also cut these from an electronic machine. Lay out the largest flowers first, starting with the bottom corner. Work your way up and fill in the white spaces with medium and small flower pieces. Take a picture if you need to remember where you placed them.

Next, glue down the Classic Solar White flowers on to the Lessebo Splash Blue egg. I used wet adhesive, but you can also use decoupage glue because we will be using that in a minute.

To add the flower centers, I cut several sizes of circles in Basis Light Yellow. Once again, adhere these with a wet adhesive. Trim off the edges of the flowers following the back side of the blue egg.

Now it’s time to decoupage the egg on to your wood surface. Apply a thin coat of decoupage glue with a paintbrush, and smooth the Lessebo Splash Blue egg on with your hand. Look for bubbles, and let this dry.

Apply a thin coat of decoupage glue to the top of the surface, and make sure to include the edges. If you have air bubbles after this process, gently press down and out. For even more durability, add another coat of decoupage several hours later.

If you find you have extra edges that stick out, take a piece of sand paper and gently rub them off. Add a bow or ribbon if you want. Then your project is ready to display!

How egg-cited are you about the spring colors from CutCardStock? I hope this project inspires you to check out the selection this month. Thanks for joining me and see you next time!
