DIY Door Sign For Cruise Vacation
Howdy all my fellow Cardstock lovers! Misty (@mommyofkidz) here today sharing a bit of crafty inspiration with you. First, however, I have a question. Can you believe that it is already August!?? As I sit here putting away all the summery products, I find myself wanting to keep holding on. I am completely unprepared to embrace the winter. Thank goodness for the beautiful transition that autumn gives us, AND for my upcoming cruise! It will be my family’s final farewell to summer 2024 before we all head back to school, work, etc. My whole house is buzzing with excitement! Needless to say, they are all SUPER ready to set out on our adventure. I, however, am not ready at all. I still have a ton of loose ends to “tie up” before leaving. Completing my project for today’s share allowed me to check off one of my “TO DO” boxes.
Say It With a Sign
While some people find it silly to decorate their cabin door, others find it a great way to get into the “cruise mode” before actually boarding. For me, I just enjoy the time that I get to spend crafting with my daughters! Oh, not to mention the fact that it is a necessary part of my cruise “TO DO” list. Since I already had a good idea of what I wanted to do, so it was easy for me to begin. I gathered all my ideas, and started with only one small piece of the “puzzle”. Grabbing some of the most vibrant and eye catching colors I could, I set to work.

Wanting to create a tropical sunset look for my sign, I gathered the following colors of cardstock from the CutCardStock Store: Lessebo Premium SUNSET Orange, Stardream Metallic GOLD, Stardream Metallic FLAME , Stardream Metallic COPPER . For the water, of course I grabbed Stardream Metallic LAGOON and Lessebo Colors AMAZON Dark Teal . For the base and working, the Stardream Metallic ONYX and Pop Tone BLACK LICORICE were the clear choices! FUN FACT for you…All Gold, Orange and Brown cardstock is on sale this month!
Let The Cutting Begin!
As you can see in the photo above, I only needed a small strip from each color to create the sunset. The strips were about an inch and a half to 2 inches in width. Cutting the strips is pretty easy, and can actually be done with or without a cutting machine. However, for the tree silhouette and quote- I did need my handy dandy Cricut machine. Once all the bits and pieces were cut, and preparation was complete, it was now time to assemble.

I used the Stardream Metallic ONYX to cut the 11 1/2 inch circular base and began assembling it all. First the cardstock strips to create the sunset over water look. Next, I added in the palm tree silhouette, which I added foam tape to in order to give it a bit of lift off of the base. Then, one by one, I carefully placed the cardstock letters and words. Ultimately, the Quote was way too funny and TRUE to not use on this sign! Have you ever been on a cruise? If you have, then you probably know how true this statement is! For those of you who have not ever cruised, just imagine a group of intoxicated adults stumbling through the hallway. Then, give them the task of finding their door, in a row of 50 doors that look EXACTLY the same. HA HA! It is way too funny to watch!

Finishing Up
Once everything was complete, I did add a silver enamel dot to the center of the ship’s wheel. I also added a bit more sparkle using a spray that I have, but I don’t think it shows up well in the photos. I always like to show my projects to my youngest daughter, because she is the most judgemental person I have ever met. LOL…Actually, she just tells me the hard truths. When she saw this, she laughed and informed me that it is “SO CUTE” and she wants one for her door! I think she approved.
I can’t wait to hang it on my cabin door for everyone to see! While the colors of cardstock that I chose were perfect to depict a sunset, you can choose any variety to create the look that you want! Every month, CutCardStock runs different Specials and Sales. They change regularly and can be found RIGHT HERE. Also, if you have an upcoming cruise…you might want to make one of these signs!
Remember, not all who wander are lost. Some are just looking for their cabin!!
Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have inspired you in some way…or maybe I just gave you a giggle!
Either way, I hope you have a wonderfully crafty weekend!
