Sparkly Firefly Card
Did you collect fireflies when you were a child? Mary here, and I have vivid memories of running around with my friends in the summer catching lightening bugs. That’s what we called them. I was sitting outside on my patio one evening recently and the fireflies were putting on a show! There were so many little lights glowing. The card I am sharing today was inspired by that night.

Step One: Gather supplies
Card stock: Gold Glitter, Black Licorice, Lessebo Moss, Surf, Rubber Ducky, Cougar Smooth White, and Vellum
Stamps and dies: Lawn Fawn Little Fireflies stamp set, LF Build-A-Drink Mason Jar Add-On, LF Lantern Add-On, and Newton’s Nook Land Borders dies.
Inks: Ranger Scattered Straw Distress Oxide and Ink On 3 Arctic White Embossing ink
Additional supplies: Ranger Perfect Pearls in Heirloom Gold and Confetti White, white embossing powder, foam dots, and liquid adhesive.
Step Two: Die cutting
I die cut three fireflies out of Surf card stock, their wings out of vellum, and their glow from Rubber Ducky. The Mason jar was cut from Cougar White and the backing was cut from vellum. The swirl in the jar was cut from gold card stock. I die cut the two layers of grass from Moss card stock and a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ panel from Black Licorice card stock. Additionally, I cut a bunch of different sized stars from the gold card stock.
Step Three: Background
To create the background, I splattered gold and white Perfect Pearls to give the sky some sparkle. This really looked good on the Black Licorice card stock! Be sure to let this dry before the next step. I set it aside to dry although I could have used a heat tool to dry the panel quicker. To add “glow” to the background, I blended Scattered Straw Oxide in the center area of the card where the jar will be using a large blending brush.

Step Four: Heat embossing
Time to heat emboss the sentiment. I decided to emboss with white embossing powder onto the bottom layer of grass. Make sure to use an anti-static tool before stamping, so the powder will only stick to the embossing ink and not to the green card stock.
Step Five: Putting the card together
Let’s start with glueing the pieces together. I adhered the white Mason jar to the vellum jar piece and then adhered the glitter swirl on top of that. Next, I adhered the wings and “glow” onto the small fireflies. A bit of gold gel pen was added to the antennas. All of this was quick and easy!
Now it’s time to finish up creating the card. First, I adhered one of the grass pieces to the bottom of the black panel. Then, I adhered the jar to the center, making sure to only add adhesive behind the card stock and not the vellum. I glued the second layer of grass next. The fireflies were added using a small, foam dot to give some dimension. Be careful to only add the foam behind the firefly body. All of the stars were adhered and then the panel was glued to an A-2 card base, also made with Black Licorice card stock.

Overall, I absolutely love how this card turned out! The sheerness of the jar and the sparkly background make me happy. I hope this inspires you to create a nighttime card.
