Tea Party Place Cards
I recently attended and hosted a tea party. It was funny how it happened all in the same month, but tea parties are coming back in style! Ladies like to get together and spill some “tea.” I wanted to share my tea bag shaped place cards with all of you. These are the ones that I made for my event, and this will show you how the CutCardStock papers work so nicely for this project.

The unique part about tea parties are the assortments of tea cups and colors you can use. I will show you one style I created, but you are not limited – there are so many other colors to create too. Fun addition: my place cards hold a tea bag in them!

I started with a piece of Curious Metallic Electric Blue (metallics are my favorite!), cut at 3.25″ by 7″. Score these at 3.5″ on the long side. Next, choose a coordinating patterned paper of your choice – this is a GREAT way to get rid of scrap papers! Cut this at 3.25″ by 3.5″.

Slice your patterned paper diagonally with a paper cutter. Then, add adhesive to the corner edges and apply it to the front of your Curious Metallic Electric Blue folded place card. Let this dry – and while it dries, you may want to put a scrap piece of paper there so it doesn’t glue shut.

Next, I’ve used a Cricut cut file for the word “tea” in a script font and sized it down to 2.75″. I added an offset shadow around it, and these are cut in Pop Tone Black Licorice and Classic Crest Solar White papers. These cut so cleanly in my machine!
Glue the Pop Tone Black Licorice word to the top of the Classic Crest Solar White offset, then set aside to attach. In addition, I’ve cut out an assortment of punny tea sayings to add to the front, again using the Solar White paper in my printer. These are done in a similar script font.

Now that your Curious Metallic Electric Blue pocket cards are dry, you will cut them like tea bags. Let me tell you – this looks easier than it is! I did not get them even on the first try, ha ha. Here’s a tip – if you have a cutting mat with measurements, cut out a .5″ corner off the edges. Once you’ve done this on both sides to one of the cards, you can now use this as a template. When in doubt, try it on a scrap piece of paper first.

From here, you will punch a hole in the middle of your card. To give it the ‘tea bag’ look, I added an extra ring around the hole. I had an eyelet style die cut, but you can use 2 circle punches in varying sizes. I did the ring for this card in the Solar White.
Time to assemble! Add the sentiment up the side of your pocket, then the die cut word at the bottom of the pocket. Be careful not to glue the pocket together!

Next, glue some twine on the inside of the hole and add another eyelet ring to hold it in place. On the other end of the twine, I’ve added a small tea bag tag and to get the cut shape right, I’m using the negative piece of a flag punch, cutting the tip off first.

Slip a teabag into your pocket and you are ready to par-tea! I liked using several sayings for this because I am all about the cheesy puns. Who here has tried a tea party table card before? If you like this idea, don’t hesitate to tell me below in the comments. See you next time!
