Monochromatic Sympathy Card
Hey everybody! I hope your week is off to a great start! Do you find sympathy cards difficult to create? I seem to get a ‘block’ every time I need to make one. Leslie here, sharing a monochromatic black and white sympathy card design using the blackout embossing technique. I used Lessebo White and Lessebo Pitch Black along with Bright Silver Foil for just a pop of silver, and love how this turned out. The blackout embossing technique yields a lot of depth and texture, and the color palette can be simple or varied.

Cut Card Base & Layers
Cut a standard A2 size side-folding card base, a front panel for embossing, and an inside layering panel from Lessebo White cardstock.
Next, cut front and inside layering panels and an inside embellishing strip from Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock.
Finally, cut a front layering panel and an inside embellishing strip from Bright Silver Foil cardstock.

Emboss Focal Panel
Lightly spritz the front panel with water and dry emboss it using a 3-D embossing folder of choice.
Allow the panel to dry for a few minutes and then flip it over so the debossed side is facing up.

Ink the Focal Panel
Swipe the debossed side of the panel with a black ink pad (foam ink pad works best) until the flat areas are covered with ink. Use a light touch and swipe multiple times. Some of the areas will be more shallow than others, yielding a lighter gradient of ink and a little more depth.

Adhere Layers
Adhere the focal panel to the silver foil panel and then to the black panel. Add the piece to the front of the card base.
The silver and black embellishing strips get adhered to the top of the inside white panel and then to the black panel.

Add Sentiments
Die cut and stamp a front sentiment (using black ink) and adhere to the card front, popping the die cut portion up on foam squares.
Stamp an inside sentiment in black ink on the inside panel.

Complete Project
Add several silver pearls to the card front for just a little bit of bling.
Adhere the inside panel to the inside of the card base, which will complete the project.
