Beachy Blues Scrapbook Layout

Howdy, y’all! Misty (@Mommyofkidz) here with you today. With all the freezing temps down here in Texas, I have been feeling a bit “BLUE”…longing for our Texas beach weather! Since I can’t have that, I opted for the next best thing. I created a beachy blues scrapbook layout! This one features my hunky hubby sitting on the sand, staring off into the ocean. I absolutely adore this man and Love this photo. Knowing this was a memory I wanted to keep forever, I reached for all my beachy blue cardstock from CutCardStock and got busy.

Let the Cutting Begin!

The image I had in my head resembled an agate stone with all the various colors of blue. To achieve that look, I knew that I would have to get creative. To begin, I searched in Cricut Design Space for “Splotch.” I found one that I liked and stuck it to the canvas. For the multiple layers, I did the contour option of the image 5 times, each growing a bit larger. Below, you will see the various sizes as well as what they were going to look like when I layered them all together. Once I figured this out, I began selecting my CutCardStock blues.

For the blues, I wanted various shades to represent the colors of the ocean. Rather than digging out all of my cardstock, I looked at the site to determine which ones to use. The colors are all right HERE and on sale this month..so WIN/WIN! It was easy for me to look at all the blues together to see which ones paired the best to create the look I was hoping for. In addition to the blues, I also used a couple of Glitter Cardstock selections. The DCS Gold Glitter Heavyweight 12×12 and the DCS White Glitter Heavyweight 12×12 were the perfect color accents for this project.

Building the Beach Scene

While the blue cardstock set the “tone” of my layout, it still needed something to make it look beachy. Since I already knew that the DCS White Glitter Heavyweight 12×12 takes liquids very well, I pulled out my alcohol inks and Nuvo texture paste. With the combo effect of all of the mixed media, some distressing, my hand-drawn white “bubbles,” and the blue cardstock, it finally felt like the Ocean was on my page! I added a few more elements to enhance the look, such as rope, acrylic bits, etc.
