Milestone Golf Cake Topper

It’s only so often that I get to plan for a big birthday in our household, especially when it comes to the men in my family. This special cake topper marks a big birthday and it is a perfect idea for any golf fans in your life. The CutCardStock papers make this a nice, sturdy project too!

I’m starting with the Basis White 110lb paper. It’s not currently available on the site, however, the 80lb. option is also a sturdy paper that will hold up through a party, but also cuts well in my electronic machine on a heavyweight setting. The images come from the Cricut Library and you’ll find hundreds of options simply by searching for the term ‘golf.’

I’ve cut a large golf ball size at about 8″ in diameter. My first thought was to turn this into a shaker and had cut an outer ring from the image; however, I decided that a more understated topper was better for this project. I saved this for another idea later.

Next up is the black silhouette image in Stardream Metallic Onyx paper. Once again, this is a sturdy choice for this project but it also adds a flair to an otherwise plain image. I’m continually impressed with the quality of the cut – I had no trouble with the thin club shaft breaking at all!

Now I had to pick out a lettering for the topper, and I’ve decided on a letterman-style font with a thin border. This is cut out in the Stardream Fairway Green – and I do enjoy the irony of the name of this paper! Another pretty paper, very shimmery but also perfect for a masculine idea.

After making all the cuts, it was time to assemble. I took the smaller dots and dusted the lower left corners in a light gray ink. This is a perfect idea to give the golf ball a look of dimension.

To attach the stem of the topper, I’ve used a paper glue on the back and attached a paper straw. If you want a finished look, feel free to cut a second circle shape to adhere on top.

Then it was simply a matter of attaching the remaining items to the front, including some Stardream Fairway grass! I can’t wait to surprise our birthday recipient with this fun party favor. I might even work on some additional party ideas to go with it! What would you put on your cake topper? I hope this gives you some party ideas or even some fun for Father’s Day too! Make sure you check out all the options in paper weights for projects like these at CutCardStock website. See you next time!
