Christmas Countdown Display

Do you love Christmas so much you count the days until it’s time to deck the halls and drink eggnog? I do and I’ve thought about purchasing a digital countdown clock for it but never seem to get it done. I’m excited to tell you about a cute and inexpensive way to do this!

Before I get started, let me point out that I used many holiday green, red and white cardstocks from the store on this one. See a complete list at the end of this post. Don’t forget to also check the Monthly Specials section of the web store. You’ll find lots of selection with great prices!

This is a Lori Whitlock .svg file #335091 called Christmas Countdown Step Card. The countdown is provided through little number cards that you can change out to keep the days counting down. The extra cards are stored in a pocket on the back. Check it out. Ingeniously simple!

This pattern has several pieces but they are easy to figure out how they go together. Here we see the step card base, the envelope, the mouse, Santa’s face and suit trim, and packages.

Next, I used the Print Then Cut feature in Cricut Design Space to make the number cards and the Days Until background. I’ve also folded and glued the envelope which is very simple to do.

This is how the card folds up. Think of the mountain and valleys with the first fold on the right being a mountain and then a valley. This alternates until all the folds are complete. Here I also show how the envelope folds are made before gluing it shut.

Next, I pieced Santa, the tree, the mouse and the packages together. These go together very simply and quickly. I used some 1/4″ double-sided foam tape to lift up Santa’s moustache and the ball on Santa’s hat. I did the same technique with the mouse’s face and ear. There is a red circle for the holly but I’m going to use some gems there instead.

The pattern includes mats for the step card. I chose a mostly neutral pattern with bits of green, red, and white so it wouldn’t overpower the characters and tree in the scene I was about to create. Also included is the word, “Christmas.” This finishes the phrase that starts with x days until Christmas once everything is in place.

Once all that was complete, I assembled the card. I glued the Days Until background to the card and attached a mini-clip for the numbers to the card with hot glue. You can also use a mini-clothes pin for this but I prefer having a wider area to grip the number cards. I decorated the tree with a red swirl bling piece and added a few other gems on the holly and the days until card. I also added a foam glitter tree sticker just to create a bit more shine, texture and color.

Here’s a closer look at the main characters. I think this one is super cute and I’m going to have fun displaying it in my kitchen to count down the days until Christmas. This can also be mailed as a card. I would suggest putting it in a 5 x 7 envelope with some added padding to make sure it all got there in one piece but it is totally mailable. It would be a great thing to get these done and sent out before December 1st. I know it would be appreciated by many!

Now for the important part! Here are all the cardstocks I used for this project:

All bling is from Eyelet Outlet. The glittered foam pieces are from Hobby Lobby.

I hope you’ll check this pattern out. I can’t wait to make more to share with friends and family!
