Lacy Gold Doily Card by Janet Axtman

There’s nothing like the glint of gold to make a card feel extra special. Card makers today have so many great options to add specialty card stock to our projects to take them to the next level. CutCardStock provides many options in this area but their Bright Foil cardstocks are really special. They provide the beautiful mirror finish we all love but they miraculously don’t show fingerprints like just about every other mirror cardstock I’ve used does. It’s also the perfect weight to use in dies or cutting machines. The price point is very reasonable as well. All in all, the Bright Foil cardstock line is my first choice for gold and silver cardstocks. I only wish they had it in other colors! (hint, hint)

For today’s card, I used the Spellbinder’s June Small Die of the month to create the beautiful lacy gold background using Gold Bright Foil cardstock. The die makes a wide border and I stacked three of them on a 4″ x 5 1/4″ mat of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. The borders are a little wider than the mat but I will trim that and the other overhang pieces before I mount it on the card base.

I then used the Spellbinders Stamp and Die of the Month for June to stamp and emboss three stacking doilies with clear embossing powder on more Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock. I used Ranger Oxide inks and blending brushes to color each of the images before cutting them out with the matching dies.

I used ThermoWeb Sticky Dots adhesive sheets to transfer dry adhesive behind the fine borders. The product works great for die cuts with large open areas plus dry adhesive will not accidently get on top of mirror cardstock and smear it as can happen with wet adhesives. Then I glued the doilies on top as shown.

I trimmed off all the overhang on both sides of the mat and applied iridescent jewels to the center of each doily except for the one in the center. I stamped a sentiment on white cardstock and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. I cut it out and applied it to a long rectangle mat made of gold cardstock. I put the finished sentiment on double sided foam tape and applied it to the center.

I made an A2 card base out of another piece of Bright Gold Foil cardstock and applied the finished card front to it. I love how this turned out. It’s so beautiful and unique and whoever receives this will know they’ve gotten something special.

I hope you’ll check out the Bright Foil cardstocks available at the store. You won’t be disappointed!
