This video demonstrates how I tangled and Copic colored this Stardream Metallic panel to create a one layer card with a mixed media feel. Watch here or in HD on YouTube.

Stardream Metallic Aquamarine Cardstock

First, I printed a digital watercolor pattern on a 5×7 flat invitation piece of Stardream Metallic Aquamarine cardstock. For tips to print on thick cardstock read this post.

If you follow me, then you know Stardream Metallic cardstock is one of my faves. Stardream has a smooth semi-porous surface, whereas Curious Metallic cardstock, another fave, has a bit more texture and tooth.

The surfaces react very differently to Copic markers. Copics absorb and blend on Curious Metallic similar to Neenah. In fact, many Copic artists regularly color on Curious Metallic Cryogen White.

Copic markers mostly sit on top of Stardream Metallic cardstock creating a painterly alcohol ink effect. I took advantage of this effect so that my Copic coloring would be similar to the watercolor background.

Definitely watch the video for the Zentangle® drawing. The pattern on the far right is a hybrid between mooka and dewd, both by Zentangle, Inc. On the bottom left is Leafslide by Karin Frank and Jewel by Irina Sedova.

Copic Markers

Here are the Copic marker combinations I used, however, I encourage you to use whatever you have in your stash. The first layer of Copic marker goes down fairly smoothly.

When you add a second layer, especially a lighter color with higher alcohol/blending solution content, you’ll start to see alcohol ink textures appear.

That’s a wrap on this project. Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you soon with more inspiration.
