One of my favorite things about kid birthday parties is coming up with a fun party theme! There are so many great choices! I absolutely love the theme my dear friend Sara came up with for her son’s birthday party… camping! What kid doesn’t like adventure, s’mores, and laughing with friends around a campfire?! And the coolest part is that because we live on the coast, the kids will be beach camping!
For the party, I created little tents that held flashlight party favors inside. The tents also looked cute as party decor.
I used Natural Twine Kraft Cardstock and Black Basis Cardstock for the base tent-shaped piece. The tent was cut using my Silhouette CAMEO and a 3D cut file from Snapdragon Snippets. For my project, I resized the cut file to fit the flashlight party favor and also slightly modified the cut file by removing the opening on the tent wall. The favors would be inserted via the doorway, so I did not need the opening on the tent wall.
Next, I added some green mini brads to hold open the tent door flaps. You can use an eyelet here if you prefer.
After folding all perforated edges, I used the pen tip of Tombow Mono Glue to assemble the 3D tent.
I found scrapbooking paper with a modern map design at my local craft store and used it for the wrap piece around the tent. I secured the wrap using scrapbooking tape adhesive. Since I removed the opening in the tent wall, the wrap serves more of a decorative piece and is a great way to add more camping flair.
To pull together the entire camp theme, I used green cardstock from the Darice Core’dination Botanical Collection to make the little flags. I chose green to match the green mini brads on the front of the tent. Lastly, I cut out the number “6” using the Natural Twine Kraft Cardstock as a nod to the birthday boy’s age! Love how little details make a big difference!
I love how a simple two-dimensional piece of cardstock can be transformed into a three-dimensional piece of art. Even a functional piece of art in this case! Visit our Facebook page to see other paper creations made by other members of the CutCardStock Design Team!
