Sympathy cards. Not fun to make but good to have on hand. Today I created several similar ones with different messages inside. These cards are colored with Copic Alcohol Markers. I’m new to Copics and certainly a beginner at using them.
But to make things easier, I selected markers that were only a couple of shades apart. Then I worked on flicking and blending them together to create these cards.
For the floral panels, I used the beautiful textured Classic Linen Card Stock in Solar White. It has a great texture that adds so much interest. I think so anyway.
Since I wanted to layer the floral and leaf images I first needed to cut-out several masks. After creating and using the masks, I store them with the stamps for later use. I started by stamping the main image on the Classic Linen Card Stock using the MISTI. I love the texture of this card stock but it can be challenging to get an image to stamp clearly and completely. Using the MISTI, I was able to stamp the image several times to achieve that look.
In the picture below, I have already stamped the large center flower and covered it with the mask that I cut out previously. Then I stamped the smaller flower and leaves over top of the masked image. Since I was still using the MISTI I could stamp each of these images several times to get good coverage. Right now it looks kind of messy. But scroll down to see the final stamped image.
Here’s the stamped image without the mask. The leaves and small flower appear behind the larger flower. Exactly the look I wanted. This technique took a little practice for me. I had to envision the layout I wanted and then stamp in reverse order. I like this technique because it adds depth to a one-layer card.
To finish the image, I added a light gray shadow by tracing around the image. It’s very subtle but also adds more depth to the image. Combining the masking technique with the shadow outline makes the image pop and gives it more depth. I like adding extra shading, especially when creating one-layer cards.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison. The one on the left doesn’t have a gray outline. The one on the right does have the outline. It is very subtle, but look closely and you’ll see the difference.
I added metallicsplatters of color using the Gansai Tambi Starry Watercolors set. I covered the colored image with a torn piece of paper to protect it from the splatters. Then added gold and silver splatters. The sentiment is stamped on Pop-Tone Card Stock in Licorice and heat embossed with detailed gold powder.
