I’m on a vintage kick these days and wanted to show you a couple more cards I made with a shabby chic theme.
On this first one I used my new Silhouette Cameo electronic die cutting machine, which I absolutely love! This card uses layers, which I mentioned in my last post was a common technique when creating shabby chic cards. However, the layers in this card show up in the beautiful 3D flower.
I created this flower on the Cameo. I purchased the die cut file from the Silhouette Online Store for .99 and can now make as many of these flowers as my heart desires! The patterned paper, stamps and vintage lace is all from the Portobello Road kit from Paper Made Bakery this month. The pearl brad is from PMB’s April kit called A Walk on the Bright Side. The Cameo comes with easy-to-use software that allows you to size the image you plan to die cut, lay out the image anywhere you want on any paper you want. Here are two 6″ x 6″ sheets of patterned paper from the kit placed on the Cameo’s cutting mat.
Once the machine cuts the flower and leaf parts, which takes less than a minute, the result looks like this:
You might wonder why I chose the pretty Basis 80# cover in light blue. Well, I gave this card to my sister for Mother’s Day and her gift was a boxed set of her favorite perfume called Light Blue. Notice that all the petals and leaves have a tab with a hole in it — you simply run each piece onto the stem of the pearl brad and, viola, you have a gorgeous 3D flower!
I wanted to add a little pizzaz to the light blue cardstock so I used the stamp set included in the Portobello Road kit to create watermarks with VersaMark ink:
The ink is clear or invisible, but within seconds after stamping, a slightly darker watermark image appears on the cardstock. Using the same technique I used in my last post with the crepe paper, I stitched the vintage blue lace and added it to the left side of the card. I used Distress Ink in Tea Dye on the edges of all the flower petals, leaves, and card edges to give a more antiqued look. I adhered the completed flower with a 3D Glue Dot. Finally, I added a little bit of blue bling to a crown image at the lower right corner and stamped “happy mother’s day”.
And, here’s another card I made with the kit…a little less frilly or girly, I guess because of the kraft cardstock, but I just love the old fashioned feel and lots of fun embellishments.
