Stenciled Birthday Card

Hey everybody, happy Tuesday – I hope your week is off to a nice start! Do you like to have a nice variety of birthday cards in your stash? I sure do… seems they are the kind I need the most. Leslie here, sharing a stenciled birthday card that would be easy to mass-produce to have multiples when you need them. Plus I love a shaped card, so that’s a bonus! I used several products from my stash along with a variety of our cardstock which I’ll list below. Let’s get started!

Gather Cardstock & Inks

These are the cardstock colors (plus vellum) used to make this card:
Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock
Mantis Green cardstock
Poodle Skirt Pink cardstock
Flamingo cardstock
Yellow Jacket cardstock
Classic Crest 80# Solar White cardstock and Classic Crest 165# Double Thick Solar White cardstock
Glama Natural Translucent Clear Vellum

Thought it would a nice touch to match several of the distress oxide ink colors to the cardstock. Accordingly, I will cut narrow embellishing strips from the Yellow Jacket, Flamingo and Poodle Skirt Pink. Additionally, I will cut layering panels from Mantis Green.

Stencil the Focal Panel

Using your choice of layering stencils and distress oxide inks, stencil the focal panel. Oxide inks look crisp on black cardstock, however they do lighten up a good bit when dry.

Cut the Card Base & Layer Panels

Firstly, cut the card base and focal panel layer from Lessebo Pitch Black.

Secondly, cut two layering panels from Mantis Green. Only one is shown in the photo below (the other one was hiding off camera) but there should be two.

Thirdly, cut the inside sentiment panel from Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White cardstock.

Die Cut & Adhere the Panels

Using your choice of shaped card dies, cut the card base and all the panels in graduating sizes.

Front: Adhere the green layering panel to the card base and then add the narrow embellishing strips diagonally. Pop up the stenciled panel on foam squares for a little dimension.

Inside: Glue the white sentiment panel to the green layering panel. You’ll notice I used a leftover piece of the stenciled panel to embellish the top of the sentiment panel.

Create the Front Sentiment for Stenciled Birthday Card

Next, use your choice of sentiment dies to create the front sentiment. Pink, black and white were used here for the outlines and small ‘birthday’ word. Large ‘happy’ word was cut from Neenah Classic Crest 165# Double Thick Solar White for a little dimension.

Add the Sentiments

Glue the die cut sentiment to the card front, and stamp a sentiment on the inside panel.

Complete the Stenciled Birthday Card

Have to say that I totally love the gorgeous colors of those diagonal embellishing strips. However, because the oxide inks lightened up after they dried, the strips are now a little too bold. So let’s tone them down a bit with Glama Natural Translucent Clear Vellum. Worked like a charm!

Afterwards, add tiny green gemstones to five of the flower centers.

Finally, adhere the sentiment panel to the inside of the card base, and your stenciled birthday card is complete!

INK: Ranger distress oxide inks- picked raspberry, abandoned coral, fossilized amber, twisted citron, and lucky clover; Versafine Onyx Black ink
