DIY Happy Birthday Ice Cream Card Tutorial
Hi crafty friends! It’s Tiffani from A Krafting Alley, and today I’m sharing how I made this super cute Happy Birthday To You ice cream–themed card. This card is bright, fun, and perfect for celebrating anyone with a sweet tooth!

I had so much fun putting this one together using dies and some beautiful cardstock. Let’s jump into the details!
Products Used
- Scrapbook.com Scoops of Fun Die Set
- Scrapbook.com Hooray Pattern Paper
- Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb
- Stardream Metallic – Eris cardstock
- Lessebo Coffee Bean cardstock
- Discount Cardstock Pink Tutu 80 lb
- Spellbinders Platinum Plus Die Cutting Machine
- Foam squares
- Foam tape
- Liquid glue
Cutting the Pieces
After gathering the cardstock colors I wanted for each layer, I used the dies from the Scoops of Fun die set to cut out all of my pieces. The only die not included in that set was a rectangle die from my stash, which I used to cut the waffle cone pattern paper for the background.

Here’s how I cut everything:
- Coffee Bean cardstock – Drippy icing portion for the word “you” and the shadow layer of the “Happy Birthday To” sentiment
- Eris Stardream Metallic cardstock – “Happy Birthday To” sentiment
- Pink Tutu cardstock – The word “you”
- Hooray Pattern Paper (colored dots) – Ice cream layer
- Waffle cone pattern paper – Background panel
The cardstock from CutCardstock.com cut beautifully with my dies and machine — nice clean edges every time!
Assembling the Card
I like to start by assembling my sentiments first so they have time to dry while I work on the background.
Step 1: Assemble the Words
First, I used liquid glue to attach the Coffee Bean “drippy icing” layer on top of the Pink Tutu letters for the word “you.” I set that aside to dry.
Next, I glued the Eris Stardream Metallic “Happy Birthday To” sentiment onto the Coffee Bean shadow layer using liquid glue. Then I let both sentiment pieces dry while moving on to the background.

Step 2: Create the Background
I glued the colored dot ice cream piece on top of the waffle cone patterned paper using liquid glue. Once that panel was assembled, I added glue to the back and adhered it to my Neenah Solar White card base.
The combination of the various colored dots and waffle cone pattern gives it such a fun, playful birthday vibe!
Step 3: Add Dimension
To finish the card, I added foam squares and foam tape to the back of the sentiment pieces for dimension. I centered the “Happy Birthday To You” sentiment right in the middle of the ice cream portion of the background.
That added lift of the foam really makes the design pop and gives the card a fun layered look.

Final Thoughts
I had so much fun making this card! The die cut pieces can be arranged in so many different ways, and I already have ideas for more birthday cards using these dies.
If you’re looking for a fun and versatile birthday card idea, an ice cream theme is always a sweet choice.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it inspires you to create your own handmade happy birthday cards. If you make one, I would love to see it!
